7 Upcoming Horror Shows You Cannot Miss

Horror has been a popular part of television for decades, thanks to classic shows like The Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. While shows used to present standalone scary stories, modern horror series often blend elements of drama, comedy, and suspense into ongoing, high-quality narratives. Now, horror is a respected genre that consistently earns recognition alongside TV’s best programs.

The final season of Stranger Things kicked off a strong year for horror on television. We’ve already seen successful shows like Peacock’s reimagining of The ‘Burbs and the chilling Netflix series, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, and Ryan Murphy’s The Beauty is also generating buzz. But that’s not all – plenty more horror shows are still to come.

From (MGM+)

Season 4 Premieres April 19th

Wow, the season 3 finale of From was seriously intense! It gave us so many more clues, and honestly, the creep factor was higher than ever. It definitely sets things up for a really packed season 4. This latest season started hinting at what’s outside the town, but it mostly just left me with even more questions! Still, it was cool to see the monsters changing and evolving – it felt like things were ‘leveling up’ and the town was finally getting closer to figuring out what’s going on.

Season 3 significantly developed the character of the Man in Yellow, who had been hinted at since the very beginning of the show. This careful foreshadowing suggests that From has a clear plan for how the story will end. The season finale confirmed this isn’t just a mysterious setup – the characters will face real danger and loss as they try to escape the town.

Okay, so season four of From is shaping up to be really strong. I’m not sure exactly what surprises are in store, but if you’ve been following the show and are eager for answers – and some seriously creepy stuff to happen – you’re going to enjoy it. It feels like things are finally coming to a head, and I’m here for it.

Widow’s Bay (Apple TV)

Series Premieres April 29th

The new series, Widow’s Bay, is being advertised as a comedy-horror, but the short promotional clips released so far have actually felt quite creepy and unsettling. Matthew Rhys, known for his roles in The Americans and The Beast in Me, plays a skeptical mayor who’s in charge of a superstitious community living on a cursed island in New England.

Hiro Murai, known for directing and executive producing acclaimed shows like Atlanta, Barry, and Station Eleven, brings his signature style to this new series. His work often combines quirky, atmospheric storytelling with both humor and emotional depth.

Based on the initial glimpses, the series Widow’s Bay appears to create a similar atmosphere of mystery. The first teaser starts with a guided tour of the town, but the camera deliberately doesn’t follow the guide as they walk away. If you carefully watch the end of the teaser, right before it cuts to the Apple TV logo and static, you can make out a shadowy figure standing on the beach.

It’s still uncertain if the show will maintain this promising atmosphere, but it highlights a key point about TV promotion: sometimes, simplicity is best. It also demonstrates that Apple TV is willing to take risks with unusual ideas and confident storytelling.

American Horror Story (FX & Hulu)

Season 13 Premieres October 31st

Details about season 13 of American Horror Story are still scarce, but the returning cast suggests a return to the show’s original style. Several fan favorites from the earlier seasons – including Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, and Leslie Grossman – are confirmed to be starring in the new season.

For many years, the horror anthology series was incredibly popular and consistently delivered well-crafted stories, even as each season explored very different themes and styles. More recently, the show’s quality dipped, and new seasons haven’t generated much excitement. However, the return of some familiar actors suggests a potential return to form.

Fans are especially thrilled about Jessica Lange’s return, as she hasn’t been on the show since season eight. While we don’t know many details yet, it will be interesting to see if she can help recapture the show’s former magic, and how the new opening credits compare to past seasons.

Interestingly, American Horror Story has never actually premiered on Halloween night before. This premiere could signal a return to the show’s roots, focusing on genuine scares and well-developed characters.

Carrie (Prime Video)

Series Premieres October 2026

Mike Flanagan, known for his popular horror series on Netflix like The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher, is now bringing his signature style to Prime Video with an adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie. He previously gained recognition for these limited series, with three of them drawing inspiration from classic gothic novels.

Although Flanagan has had great success with his Netflix projects, adapting the work of a living, outspoken author like Stephen King presents a new challenge. He previously adapted Stephen King’s The Life of Chuck as a film, and while it was well-received, it didn’t achieve the same critical acclaim as his later Netflix series.

Mike Flanagan faces a big challenge taking on a remake of Carrie, especially given how popular the 1976 film was. However, he’s established himself as a talented horror TV director and is great at adapting stories for the screen. If anyone can successfully reimagine Carrie as a TV series, it’s him.

Crystal Lake (Peacock)

Series Premieres December 2026

This new prequel series to Friday the 13th could be similar to Bates Motel. However, Bates Motel focused on a troubled mother-son relationship as the core of the story. In contrast, the upcoming series suggests that young Jason’s death is what initially motivated his mother – and eventually Jason himself – to commit violence.

The idea behind the show – exploring the backstory of Jason Voorhees and his mother before the events of the Friday the 13th movies – hints that there’s a deeper story to be told. The original Friday the 13th writer is involved as an executive producer, which should help the show feel connected to the existing films.

It: Welcome To Derry (HBO Max)

Season 2 Confirmed

Just like the It movies, Welcome to Derry delves deeper into Stephen King’s well-known story. Created by the same team behind It and It: Chapter Two, it feels like a natural extension of those films. The first season of Welcome to Derry quickly became one of the most popular premieres on HBOMax, and viewers are eager for more.

After much anticipation, Barbara and Andy Muschietti have confirmed that a second season of It: Welcome to Derry is happening. The show is designed to last, with each season exploring a new period in Derry’s history and a fresh wave of Pennywise attacks, which occur every 27 years. This approach will allow the show to constantly reinvent itself and keep the story engaging.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (A24)

Currently In Development

Glen Powell is heavily involved in the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre TV series as a creative producer, but he won’t be acting in it. JT Mollner, who recently adapted Stephen King’s The Long Walk, is also working on the series. While it’s unknown exactly when the show will take place in relation to the original films, this team suggests the series has a lot of potential.

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is famous for being truly disturbing, showing the terrifying actions of Leatherface without explaining his motives. It will be fascinating to see how this mysterious character translates to television, where horror adaptations often focus on developing characters and their backstories in more detail.

Look, this movie isn’t perfect, but its incredibly unique visual style and the way it uses found footage really grabbed me. More importantly, I think it’s built a seriously solid foundation for the upcoming series – a foundation that could genuinely put it in the running with the very best horror shows on television. I’m excited to see where they take it.
