Emily in Paris season 4 episode 5 recap: Last Christmas

As a seasoned gamer and binge-watcher of Emily in Paris, I must say that the season 4 part 2 premiere was a rollercoaster ride of emotions! The anticipation for the show’s first Christmas episode had me on edge since the last we saw, Gabriel was not as close to getting a Michelin star as he thought, and Camille wasn’t actually pregnant.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t contain my excitement because Christmas arrives ahead of schedule for us Emily in Paris enthusiasts! The arrival of season 4 part 2 means we get to experience the charm of Christmas in this beloved series for the very first time!

Previously, it was revealed that Gabriel discovered he wasn’t as near to receiving a Michelin star as he believed, but the unexpected twist was that Camille wasn’t actually expecting a baby. This sudden disclosure left us questioning when she would confess the truth and how this revelation might affect her relationship with Gabriel, as well as his bond with Emily.

Let’s take a moment to issue a friendly warning: As we delve into the topic of who lands on the ‘naughty’ and ‘nice’ lists, beware! If you haven’t caught up with the midseason premiere, there are spoilers lurking ahead. Proceed with care!

Emily’s Christmas plans get derailed

With the new season upon us and Christmas drawing ever closer, I find myself eagerly anticipating Emily’s return to Chicago for the holidays, where she’ll be reuniting with her loved ones. To our collective astonishment, it seems that Gabriel won’t be joining Emily in Chicago this year as he’s chosen to celebrate Christmas with Camille and her family instead. It appears that Camille has kept a secret from him, which explains his decision to spend the holiday season with her family. Despite Emily expressing her heartfelt desire for him to join her in Chicago, Gabriel continues to prioritize Camille over our mutual plans, signaling his intentions louder than Rudolph’s brightest nose.

Upon reaching the airport, Emily is taken aback to learn that Sylvie has treated her to an upgrade to business class. However, this luxury is short-lived as her return flight to Chicago gets canceled, denying her the chance to enjoy the upgraded seating.

Following the cancellation of her flight, Camille’s father suggests she spends Christmas with their family instead, after hearing Gabriel mention his plans to return to Paris for the holidays to be with her. This proposal doesn’t sit well with either Camille or her mother.

Right from the get-go when I stepped into Emily’s family’s rustic cabin for the holidays, it was evident that this wasn’t shaping up to be a typical cheerful Christmas affair.

Do Emily and Gabriel break up in Emily in Paris?

As Christmas progresses, it’s evident that Emily and Gabriel are experiencing significant issues within their relationship. It’s surprising to see Camille’s brother stepping up as the voice of reason when he bluntly points out that Emily holds a subordinate position in the relationship, emphasizing that she is, indeed, the mistress, given that it’s not Emily’s family Gabriel is celebrating Christmas with.

Emily chooses to hit the slopes with Camille and Gabriel for a skiing session. Quickly, Camille sets off racing against Gabriel, causing him to forget about assisting Emily. Instead of sticking by Emily’s side, an excited Gabriel follows after Camille, leaving Emily alone.

After multiple tumbles, I found myself encountering an amiable Italian fellow named Marcello, who graciously assisted me in navigating the snowy slopes safely. As we flirtatiously exchanged banter, it was time for us to go our separate ways, perfectly timed for me to witness Gabriel and Camille getting closer – a sight that stirred some righteous indignation within me as I called out Gabriel for abandoning me at the peak of the mountain.

she’s Gabriel’s mistress and nothing more. As they continue to struggle, Emily tells Gabriel their situation isn’t sustainable and it’s time they both acknowledge this truth.

She abandons them, leaving both him and Camille on the slopes, abruptly ending their renewed relationship at the end of this season as swiftly as it restarted.

Sadly, Emily and Alfie do not get back together

Following her split with Gabriel, Emily gathers her belongings and makes her way home, only to run into Alfie. This encounter feels almost as if destiny has brought them back together, hinting at a possible reunion. Regrettably, this is not what transpires.

Whenever Emily encounters him, she shares with Alfie the fact that she’s split up with Gabriel. Being the kind-hearted person he is, Alfie promptly inquires about Emily’s wellbeing.

Emily reveals to him why her relationship with Gabriel never succeeded, and she’s now openly admitted it. The discussion then shifts towards Alfie, as she expresses delight at seeing him and enquires about his well-being. It appears that Alfie has found love in Paris… and with the new woman he is currently involved with. That means Alfie is no longer available.

As Emily invites me to attend her holiday party with Mindy, I have to politely decline since I’m scheduled to spend Christmas Eve attending a mass with my girlfriend and her family. Following that special occasion, we’ll be celebrating Boxing Day with my family in the bustling city of London.

As Emily conveys her Merry Christmas greetings to Alfie and expresses her joy for him, her expression betrays her emotions as she fights back tears. Upon Alfie’s departure, those hidden feelings spill over, leaving Emily with a sorrowful, sad, and melancholic Christmas.

Odds and ends from the episode

In another part of the show, Sylvie’s idea of celebrating Christmas at home with Laurent and his daughter Geneviève takes an unexpected turn when she accidentally burns the Christmas turkey. Things don’t get any easier for Sylvie as this mishap is followed by another surprise – Geneviève has traveled to Paris for a job interview at Vogue Paris, and Sylvie tries to help her by recommending her, but ends up regretting it when things go wrong.

If the editor of Paris Vogue suggests that if Sylvie truly values Geneviève as much as she claims, she should employ her, and following an unfortunate incident, Sylvie proposes a job position for Geneviève at Agence Grateau.
