Almost three decades after the popular movie came out, Mara Wilson, who starred in Matilda, is getting a lot of attention online thanks to a video she recently shared. The former child star has playfully addressed the buzz, talking about her complicated feelings regarding comments about how she looks.
She participated in a popular Instagram trend where people share old photos from the 1990s. She posted a Reel showing what she looked like back then, responding to the prompt, ‘Mom, what were you like in the 90s?’
In the video, she playfully said, “You all know what’s up. If you’re following me, you already get it.”

She admitted she didn’t think her kids would be all that interested, saying, “You know that’s true.” Then, changing the subject, she shared a photo of herself at age seven, claiming it was from the Oscars.
The post received a lot of positive feedback, including comments like “you haven’t changed” and “you’re amazing,” so she added a comment of her own.

I really appreciate all the kind comments! And to those who aren’t so nice, I understand most people don’t know me. But for those who do, it’s usually because of my work in the 1990s, she explained.
It’s always awkward when someone says I haven’t changed! It’s not a bad thing, but it’s not exactly a compliment either. I prefer to think it means I look younger than I am, and that’s a nice thing to hear in your late thirties.
She believes her good skin is likely a combination of genetics and healthy habits – she’s never smoked, doesn’t drink alcohol, and always uses sunscreen. She also admitted to using beauty filters sometimes.
Besides Matilda, Mara Wilson charmed audiences as a child in films like Mrs. Doubtfire and the updated Miracle on 34th Street. However, after Thomas and the Magic Railroad in 2000, she largely left acting, appearing in only a few projects since then.
The beloved story of Matilda, originally a book by Roald Dahl, was recently reimagined as a movie musical in 2022. Alisha Weir starred as Matilda in this new film adaptation.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant 100-page magazine dedicated to Harry Styles, is now available! You can find it at newsstands or purchase it online.
