It is time to move Cody Rhodes past The Bloodline

As a long-time wrestling enthusiast who’s seen more than a few title reigns come and go, I can confidently say that Cody Rhodes’ current run as WWE Undisputed Champion has been nothing short of captivating. However, it seems to me that the creative team might be missing a trick by keeping him so deeply entangled with The Bloodline.

156 days have passed since Cody Rhodes began his reign as the WWE Undisputed Champion. At WrestleMania, he concluded his narrative by triumphing over Roman Reigns. The climactic moment arrived, and emotions ran high. Legacies were solidified. However, opinions on Rhodes’ performance as champion are divided: some view it as a success, while others find it lacking. With the impressive roster on SmackDown, one point is indisputable – it’s high time for Rhodes to part ways with The Bloodline.

Over nearly four years, the Bloodline narrative has taken many twists and turns, with Roman Reigns and his associates experiencing both high points and low ones. At times, this tale was the pinnacle of wrestling, while at others, it seemed merely average. Currently, Reigns finds himself without the title, facing off against Solo Sikoa and his group. Given the circumstances, it’s natural that the story has shifted in this direction, considering The Rock’s influence. However, the plot no longer requires Cody Rhodes to be a part of it anymore.

During Cody Rhodes’ championship reign, some of the most memorable moments didn’t involve The Bloodline. His battles against AJ Styles and the clash with Kevin Owens serve as prime examples of what can be achieved when given a chance to collaborate with other performers. These matches were rich in narrative, resulting in outstanding professional wrestling performances. However, when The Bloodline became involved, it felt like these encounters were merely pauses before WWE reached the highly anticipated showdown between The Rock and Roman Reigns. Any other events seemed insignificant compared to this, a fact not lost on fans who recognize this pattern.

Contemplate what Cody Rhodes might accomplish if he had additional time to collaborate with other SmackDown performers. Pairing Rhodes against talents like Andrade, Carmelo Hayes, Santos Escobar, or even Tommaso Ciampa could lead to more significant storylines. Notably, facing off against Randy Orton, his potential ultimate adversary, would be a narrative that could sustain Rhodes’ title reigns for extended periods. This confrontation could also provide Orton with another title run as he approaches the end of his career. Rhodes has plenty to offer and these opportunities seem most fruitful when The Bloodline is not involved.

At some stage, Cody Rhodes will surpass Roman Reigns and his group, The Bloodline. Whether this happens at WrestleMania 41 or sometime afterwards remains uncertain. However, one thing that’s definite is that it’s high time he distances himself from any connections to the Anoa’i family.
