As a seasoned gamer with years of Dota 2 tournaments under my belt, I must admit that The International 2024 has been nothing short of thrilling so far. The new format and schedule have certainly shaken things up, but the drama and tension are as high as ever.
As a gamer, I’ve noticed that the new format has reshuffled our scheduling. Now, we’re facing off against the top two teams from the lower brackets right from the get-go.
2024’s initial elimination day for The International began, with four teams exiting the tournament following two rounds of Lower Brackets. It’s important to note that this stage is part of what Valve refers to as “The Road to The International,” implying that these teams did not perform in front of a live audience. Furthermore, the revised format necessitated two teams to compete twice to advance to the Top 8.
Yet, the identities of the last two teams participating in the Main Event remain undetermined; they’ll face off on September 10. The teams that have been ousted from the various brackets are as follows:
BetBoom Team sent Talon and nouns to an early elimination on TI13
In a twist of events, the previously named Big Bananas Team (due to naming changes enforced by Denmark’s betting sponsor’s regulations) found themselves battling for survival against Talon Esports, currently at the bottom of Group B. Despite being favored, the Southeast Asian team staged an unexpected comeback, managing to tie the series.
Regardless of the previous game being a decisive victory for the Eastern European team, Game 2 at The International 2024 is poised to make a significant impact on its historical record.
Later on, Vitalie “Save-” Melnic admitted that he defeated his opponents using a mere $5 US dollar mouse. Quite the character, indeed. He went on to challenge and conquer the last remaining hope from NA using the same affordable plastic gadget.
Furthermore, just as mentioned earlier, the term “esports” was their unfortunate demise during TI13’s elimination round 2. In the following two games, the North American team found themselves on the losing side, as they were defeated in every team fight they initiated. During the second game, they expended all available resources to eliminate a Snapfire support, eventually succeeding; however, their triumph was short-lived, as BB Team swiftly wiped them out shortly afterwards.
1win came in strong, until they met the Falcons
In another round of the TI13 elimination brackets, an unexpected showdown between Team Zero and 1win Esports was unfolding. The Chinese team showcased some popular heroes from the current meta, but 1win countered each pick they made. Although the match wasn’t particularly exciting, hilarious memes emerged to lighten the mood after a one-sided score of 3-22.
Regrettably, Team Falcons found themselves experiencing a reversal of fortune, having received a taste of their own strategy during The International 2024 elimination game. Rather than ending their tournament prematurely, they had been biding their time with the intention to stay in the competition as long as possible. In what turned out to be the shortest match of the day and two spectacular upsets, Team Falcons effortlessly claimed their spot among the Top 8 contenders.
Ammar “ATF” Al-Assaf has laid a captivating trap for 1win, potentially crushing their aspirations.
