Andy Samberg reveals “hesitation” over unexpected role in Lee

As a fan with a deep appreciation for versatile acting, I was absolutely thrilled to witness Andy Samberg step out of his comedic comfort zone and take on such a dramatic role in the moving biographical film, “Lee.” Known primarily for his work on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and as part of The Lonely Island trio, it’s refreshing to see him tackle a project as historically significant and emotionally intense as this one.

Andy Samberg is known for his comedy work, but in Lee he’s taking on an unexpected dramatic role.

For the first time, this actor, renowned for his roles as Jake Peralta on “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and a member of the comedy group The Lonely Island, is stepping into uncharted territory.

In the film, Bill Hader portrays Life Magazine photographer David E. Scherman, who partners with war photographer Lee Miller, played by Kate Winslet, in the midst of World War II.

In an exclusive chat with Digital Spy before the movie’s premiere, he expressed some uncertainty about accepting this role.

As a gamer, I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard that the incredible Kate Winslet wanted me for a role in her upcoming movie! Without hesitation, I jumped at the opportunity and eagerly agreed.

She mentioned that I resemble David Sherman quite strongly, which I believe she said sincerely. Additionally, she appreciated some of the work I’ve done with her children, and as a result, we ended up reading together.

Samberg recalls he was “a bit trepidatious” at the start.

“I didn’t want to ruin the movie; that was my quote,” he joked.

However, we collaborated, and she encouraged me, saying, “You’ll excel. I want you to take this opportunity. They want you for this role.” Inspired by the prospect of working alongside her on such an exciting project, I decided to go for it. After all, when will another chance like this come along?

Additionally, I felt well-suited for the role, and I held great respect for the character I portrayed. Everything just seemed to fit perfectly.

In that same conversation with Digital Spy, Alexander Skarsgård also discussed his character, who was renowned painter and Lee Miller’s second husband, Roland Penrose. He referred to him as a versatile or multifaceted individual.

In a movie set in the charming south of France, we initially encounter him surrounded by his artistic companions. This is where Lee and Roland first cross paths, marking a deeply passionate encounter. Their love quickly spirals into an intense whirlwind, with Lee becoming utterly captivated by Roland. This infatuation endures throughout the remainder of his life.

As a keen movie enthusiast, I can’t help but mention the stellar cast of this upcoming film. Alongside me, you’ll see Marion Cotillard, who left a lasting impression in Inception, Josh O’Connor, shining from his role in Challengers, and Andrea Riseborough, whose performance in To Leslie was nothing short of brilliant.

In this film, which is helmed by director Ellen Kuras, known for her work on “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, we see the transformation of the character, Miller, from a fashion model to a war correspondent amidst World War II events.

Lee is arriving in cinemas on September 13.
