Agatha All Along: Everything to know about the magical new MCU series

As a long-time Marvel fan with a soft spot for witches and a deep appreciation for Kathryn Hahn’s acting chops, I can hardly contain my excitement for “Agatha All Along“! After her mesmerizing performance as Agnes/Agatha Harkness in WandaVision, I knew we hadn’t seen the last of this complex character.

Prepare yourself for Marvel Cinematic Universe’s darkest television venture yet, titled “Agatha All Along“. Here are some essential details about this highly anticipated series!

Despite experiencing some difficulties recently, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was thriving in 2020. This prosperity extended to its first original series on Disney+, titled “WandaVision”. The narrative developed gradually, but essentially, after enduring immense losses following “Avengers: Endgame”, Wanda Maximoff (played by Elizabeth Olsen) experienced a complete mental collapse. In an attempt to cope with her grief, Wanda assumed control of the body of her lover, the Vision (portrayed by Paul Bettany). She then relocated to Westview, a town that had been affected by the Blip – an event where Thanos wiped out half of Earth’s population, and it took five years for them to return.

In a twist that had viewers talking, it turned out that Wanda’s neighbor Agnes, played by Kathryn Hahn, was actually Agatha Harkness – an ancient witch who had been secretly pulling the strings on Wanda to gain her own power. This revelation was accompanied by the popular tune “Agatha All Along,” which echoed through the series as it unveiled how she orchestrated the events unfolding in the storyline.

Ultimately, Wanda overpowered Agatha and meted out retribution by depriving her of her magical powers and making her believe she was still Agnes. She freed the townspeople from the enchantment prior to facing her own grim destiny in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

But you can’t keep a good witch down, as Agatha is ready for a huge comeback. After teasing titles like House of Harkness, Coven of Chaos and Darkhold Diaries, it’s settled on Agatha All Along and it looks like it will be a blast.

What is Agatha All Along about?

The performance continues by revealing that Agatha continues to believe herself as Agnes, until a teenage witch named Teen frees her from the enchantment. From this point on, Agatha embarks on a journey to reclaim her powers, attracting a group of witches to her cause, all while concealing a malicious intention.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Hahn expressed that she didn’t anticipate reprising the role of Agatha; however, the overwhelming enthusiasm from fans for her character convinced creator Jed Schaeffer to develop a sequel primarily focusing on Agatha.

I wanted [Agatha] to not lose her acerbic nastiness. I wanted to actually see what lies beneath that weird, hard, mean shell. And also to have some music, keep the camp up. All the costume changes, all the stuff that I really loved about WandaVision, the element of performance in her — she really is a great old-school actor who loves putting on the ritz. I wanted that to be part of her still.

The previews suggest an exhilarating voyage for Agatha, featuring musical segments and yet delving into a more sinister pursuit of power, unveiling secrets about her enigmatic background.

In Agatha All Along, the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth Teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches’ Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road…

Who stars in Agatha All Along?

Apart from Hahn, the cast boasts a strong lineup, with Joe Locke portraying Teen, a young witch who is cursed and therefore cannot utter his name. Fans have theories that he could be the mature version of Tommy, one of Wanda’s comic book-inspired sons who eventually becomes the powerful character known as Wiccan. However, neither the showrunners nor the actor have confirmed these speculations.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that Aubrey Plaza steps into the role of Rio, a fresh character in this series, and she joins forces with Hahn, whom I fondly remember from our shared time on ‘Parks and Recreation.’ Sasheer Zamata brings Jennifer Kale to life, a renowned Marvel Comics witch. Ali Ahn breathes life into Alice Wu-Gulliver, another well-known Marvel sorceress. And the legendary Patti LuPone takes on the role of Lilia Calderu, an enchanting 450-year-old witch.

Additionally, following “WandaVision,” minor characters such as Sharon Davis (played by Debra Jo Rupp) are set to reappear, mysteriously finding themselves in Agatha’s coven. It is possible that unexpected guest appearances may further enliven the series.

  • Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness
  • Joe Locke as Teen
  • Debra Jo Rupp as Sharon Davis
  • Patti LuPone as Lilia Calderu
  • Aubrey Plaza as Rio Vidal
  • Sasheer Zamata as Jennifer Kale
