Watch the first teaser for the new Wolf Man movie from Blumhouse and Universal

As a seasoned gamer with a penchant for horror and an unquenchable thirst for nostalgia, I must admit that the teaser for Universal Pictures’ latest iteration of the classic 1941 monster flick, “Wolf Man,” has piqued my interest. The emotional turmoil that seems to be at the heart of this lycanthrope’s story is a refreshing twist in the genre, and the hints of transformation in the teaser are nothing short of chilling.

As Halloween nears, it seems that the “spooky” vibe might persist until January, if Universal Pictures gets their way. Today marks the debut of the initial teaser for the film titled “Wolf Man”. If this is your first time hearing about it, then yes, it’s exactly as it sounds. This production is a reimagining by Universal and Blumhouse of the 1941 Universal monster movie, focusing on a werewolf who bays at the moon, devours unfortunate souls wandering into his path, and generally carries out the actions one would associate with a werewolf.

In this new adaptation of “Wolf Man”, it appears he will be grappling with a significant amount of emotional distress too. The trailer, which you can view above, gives us our first chilling glimpses of the Wolf Man’s metamorphosis and how his family responds to living with a werewolf.

In addition to some thrilling moments, such as a chilling scene where a wolf-like limb breaks through a car’s windshield, and unexpectedly, praying mantises, there’s more to discover in this film. You might wonder what praying mantises have to do with werewolves, but you’ll get the answer when you watch! I’m curious, which predator turns out to be the most menacing? Find out for yourself!

Previously, Universal attempted to revive the “Wolf Man” franchise in 2010 with a movie starring Benicio Del Toro, but it didn’t fare well critically or commercially. The A.V. Club reports that an attempt at rebooting the film with Ryan Gosling followed, but it didn’t move forward and eventually morphed into the upcoming film we’ll see next year. Fingers crossed it performs better, especially with Blumhouse on board as the studio.

“Wolf Man” is the latest film by Leigh Whannell (known for “The Invisible Man”), featuring Christopher Abbot, Julia Garner, Matilda Firth, and Sam Jaegar. This thrilling movie hits the big screen on January 17, 2024.
