As a seasoned gamer and musical enthusiast who has lived through the golden age of Broadway and the digital revolution, I am beyond excited for the upcoming movie adaptation of “Wicked.” Having grown up with Idina Menzel’s powerful vocals as Elphaba and Kristin Chenoweth‘s enchanting performance as Glinda, it’s like a dream come true to see this beloved story unfold on the silver screen.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got to say that “Wicked,” derived from Gregory Maguire’s book, is one of the most successful musicals in the last two decades that’s left me spellbound. This captivating tale retells “The Wizard of Oz” from the eyes of the Wicked Witch of the West, and it’s been a blockbuster hit ever since! Idina Menzel brilliantly portrays the complex character of Elphaba, our main witch, while Kristin Chenoweth shines as the Good Witch of the North, Glinda.
This year, the stage show is being transformed into a film, starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda. Additionally, there are whispers that Kristin Chenoweth could potentially appear in a cameo role, maybe even as Glinda’s mother.
Where did the rumor about Chenoweth originated from? Contrary to speculations, it wasn’t initiated by paparazzi photos, despite claims that photographers attempted to capture set images even using hang gliders. If they went as far as employing such methods, I believe they deserve credit for the scoop. However, the Chenoweth rumor appears to have been orchestrated by Universal Studios itself. Some fans assert they saw her at approximately 1:53 in this behind-the-scenes video; check out the picture below and form your own opinion about its authenticity.

It seems quite plausible that John Chu, director of Wicked, might reserve a spot for the actress who initially played Glinda. If it’s Kristin Chenoweth, I wouldn’t be taken aback if Idina Menzel, known for voicing Elsa in Frozen, makes an appearance too.
Concerning Chu, he discussed with Empire Magazine about what viewers can anticipate from the upcoming movie. He hinted, “The opening 60 seconds will offer a fresh, unrefined perspective of Oz unlike anything seen before.” Furthermore, you’ll witness the actual 9 million tulips that were planted.
The musical starts with Dorothy having just defeated the Wicked Witch of the West, and then it flashes back to reveal the events leading up to this moment. Chu commented that despite its initial cheerful atmosphere, the story soon becomes grim and somber.
Wicked will come out in theaters on November 22. Unfortunately, it will only adapt half of the stage show. Wicked: Part 2 will bring the story to a close a year later on November 26, 2025.
