First trailer for Julia Garner’s classic horror reboot Wolf Man

As a seasoned gamer of horror films, I can’t help but feel a chill down my spine with the tantalizing glimpse we got into the new Wolf Man movie. With Leigh Whannell at the helm and a stellar cast, it’s shaping up to be quite the ride.

Next year, we’ll finally get a glimpse of it, as the initial trailer for “Wolf Man” has been unveiled to tantalize us with what’s coming our way.

The new adaptation of the 1941 horror film, once again directed by Leigh Whannell, who collaborated with Corbett Tuck and Lauren Schuker Blum & Rebecca Angelo on the script, is his second venture into the Universal Monster universe following the acclaimed success of 2020’s The Invisible Man.

In a new setting, Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner portray a strained couple, Blake and Charlotte, along with their daughter Ginger, played by Matilda Firth. After inheriting his childhood home following the disappearance of his father, Blake convinces Charlotte to take a trip there.

Upon arrival, they find themselves under attack by a hidden creature, compelling them to fortify their position for the night. Swiftly, it becomes apparent that Blake exhibits peculiar behavior, leaving Charlotte to ponder if the internal fear is deadlier than the external threat.

This production, known as “Wolf Man,” features Sam Jaeger, Ben Prendergast, and Benedict Hardie among its stars. It is the work of Jason Blum, who serves as the founder and CEO of Blumhouse Productions.

Initially, it was planned that Ryan Gosling would play the main character in this film, a move that would bring him back together with ‘The Place Beyond the Pines’ director, Derek Cianfrance.

Nevertheless, Ryan Gosling and Derek Cianfrance departed the production in December 2023, passing the lead role to Abbott. Instead, James Wan stepped up as the director. Despite leaving the main acting position, Gosling stayed involved with the movie, serving as an executive producer.

Despite not appearing in a movie together before, there will be a reunion of sorts on screen since Abbott and Garner have collaborated for the film “Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene,” which happens to be Garner’s initial feature film.

Originally scheduled for an October 2024 premiere, the film titled “Wolf Man” has been moved forward and is now set to be released on January 17, 2025 instead.

Indeed, The Wolfman isn’t the initial contemporary revamp of the traditional horror film. In fact, it was The Wolfman (released in 2010) featuring Benicio Del Toro as the main character that didn’t fare well, critically and commercially.

Let’s hope it’s second time lucky with Wolf Man.

Wolf Man is released in cinemas on January 17, 2025.
