Kate Winslet weighs in on the ‘can women can have it all?’ debate as she reveals how she deals with mum guilt

Kate Winslet weighs in on the 'can women can have it all?' debate as she reveals how she deals with mum guilt

As a lifestyle expert with decades of experience under my belt, I wholeheartedly agree with Kate Winslet‘s approach to balancing personal and professional life. It’s essential to remember that we can’t do it all, and learning to prioritize self-care is crucial for maintaining our mental and physical wellbeing.

Kate Winslet had to accept that she couldn’t do it all in order to achieve happiness.

The actress, aged 48, contributed significantly to the well-known discussion by expressing her thoughts on maintaining a harmonious balance between her personal and career commitments.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK, she shared that self-care for her involves taking out time to just exist, and giving herself moments of kindness.

For women, it can be challenging to maintain a fast-paced lifestyle without feeling overwhelmed when we fail to incorporate activities like exercise, taking the dog for walks, or attending all sports events at school. It’s frustrating if we can’t manage to do everything on our plate, such as participating in every single match, drop off and pick up at school.

It’s becoming more significant for me to accept my limitations, understanding that I may not be able to accomplish everything on the list.

Kate, mom to Mia Threapleton (age 23), Joe Mendes (age 20), and Bear (age 10), mentioned: ‘Frequently, I feel most beautiful when I simply unwind. I’m making efforts to find ways to relax more and more often.’

Kate Wessler agrees with the viewpoint that Emma Thompson also holds; a perspective that left a lasting impression on Kate after she gave her some guidance.

In my youth, she advised me, “Sweetheart, always strive for quality work, yet don’t overdo it,” a piece of wisdom I’ve carried with me since. As Kate disclosed, this has remained etched in her memory.

The Oscar-winning star also spoke about how she treats her physical and mental wellbeing on equal par.

She explained: ‘Women get more beautiful as they get older. Our faces become more of who we are, they sit better on our bone structure, they have more life, more history.

‘Things I find incredibly beautiful are wrinkles around the eyes, the backs of hands.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve come to understand that self-care extends beyond physical appearance and diet. It’s equally crucial to nurture one’s mental wellbeing. This encompasses your emotional health, your sense of self, your place in the world, and how you navigate it authentically with integrity and sincerity.

‘I think these things matter and these things come out in how we look, and of course in how we feel. Beauty is more of a feeling, [rather] than what we look at.’

Over time, self-acceptance and speaking up against injustices became crucial for Kate. She learned to embrace herself fully, and she found her voice to express her opinions.

Kate concluded: ‘As time passes, we grow more understanding and accepting of ourselves and our physical transformations, as well as the lessons life teaches us. It’s essential that we embrace this acceptance not just for ourselves but also for others.’

At the beginning, there was no environment where women could express their opinions or advocate for themselves.

‘It certainly wasn’t the case that you could ever flag something you were uncomfortable with, because that would be seen as complaining.

In the past decade, particularly after the MeToo movement, our field has witnessed a remarkable surge in opportunities for women. Many fresh talents are emerging, producing outstanding performances. I believe this trend not only energizes our industry but also empowers individuals to express themselves effectively, which in turn serves as an inspiration for others.

Currently, women are expressing themselves powerfully, and it’s through their example that I’ve come to understand my value and the importance of my own voice as well.

I’m absolutely thrilled to be following Kate’s journey as she delves deep into the world of “Lee,” a captivating biographical drama. This film chronicles the life of American ex-model Lee Miller, who used her lens to capture poignant World War II moments for Vogue magazine. As an ardent fan, I can’t wait to see how Kate brings this extraordinary woman to life on the big screen!

In this captivating production I have the pleasure of discussing, yours truly plays the leading character, while the exceptional talents of Josh O’Connor, Marion Cotillard, Andy Samberg, and Alexander Skarsgård grace our screens as well.

Lee made its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2023, and it’s set to open in UK cinemas on September 13th.
