The Perfect Couple episode 3 recap: Is Will our main suspect?

As a seasoned mystery enthusiast with a knack for unraveling the most intricate of plot twists, I must admit that “The Perfect Couple” is not the masterpiece that is Poirot or Sherlock Holmes, but it sure does hit the spot when you’re in need of a good whodunit fix.

Are you still following along? Despite being less than a top-notch murder mystery, Netflix’s “The Perfect Couple” remains engaging enough to keep watching. So let’s get started and summarize the key happenings in episode 3 of “The Perfect Couple.”

In the third episode, we learn that Meritt (Meghann Fahy) met the Winbury family a year ago. She was Amelia’s (Eve Hewson) guest at a party the Winburys were hosting. Her first interaction with Tag (Liev Schreiber) is short. They introduce themselves and go on about their business. Neither appears particularly interested in the other, at least not in a romantic way. I’m sure we’ll come back to this in a later episode, but that’s all we get for now.

Currently, it appears that Amelia, who may have agreed to a Non-Disclosure Agreement, is disregarding all its stipulations. However, based on my understanding of NDA protocols, this seems to be the case. Amelia has revealed Meritt and Tag’s secret affair to the detectives, specifically Chief Carter (Michael Beach) and Detective Henry (Donna Lynne Champlin). Despite this revelation, these officers are proceeding with caution in their investigation. They understand that they require additional evidence before summoning Tag for questioning. The Winburys possess considerable wealth and influence, so a misstep by the authorities could potentially jeopardize the entire situation.

Initially, it appears they have a substantial amount of evidence, particularly once they discover that Meritt truly was pregnant. However, the situation changes when Amelia uncovers Meritt’s bracelet in Will’s (Sam Nivola) possessions, leading us to delve into Will for a moment. Contrary to my initial impressions, it seems Will is a more complex and troubled individual than I had initially believed.

The Perfect Couple episode 3 recap: Is Will our main suspect?

Initially, Will had a French tutor named Mae Pratt who was involved in an affair with Tag. To hide this scandal, Greer (Nicole Kidman) and Tag paid a significant sum of money for Mae to depart and not come back, not that she’s deceased. Instead, it is assumed that she left voluntarily. This revelation saddens Will, as he had a close bond with Mae. All these years, Will believed that he was the reason for her departure. Upon discovering this truth, an upset Will takes Chloe (Mia Isaac) and escapes in his father’s punt boat amidst a stormy rain, but it seems his plan to escape from the situation might not have positive outcomes.

Let’s rewind to a moment: Friends Will and Chloe catch up by the beach after Chloe finishes work, enjoying some drinks together. Suddenly, Will stands up and departs upon seeing Meritt nearby. The narrative skips ahead because Chloe dozed off and didn’t awaken until Will came back later, sporting a severely injured hand. To help him, she uses her own shirt. The blood-stained garment she secreted from her father in the very first episode now comes into play, raising some eyebrows…

The Perfect Couple episode 3 notes and bits

  • When Shooter catches up with the Winburys, he tells Greer that he didn’t tell the cops about “the money.”
