Take the Black: Let's talk about George R.R. Martin vs House of the Dragon

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of immersion in the realm of fantasy and science-fiction, I can’t help but feel like a citizen of Westeros caught between the dragons and the direwolves, watching the unfolding drama of George R.R. Martin vs HBO’s House of the Dragon.

Welcome to Take the Black, where we talk about all things sci-fi, fantasy, books, movies and TV. We’ve got a sizzling hot for you: the other day, Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin wrote a blog post where he took prequel show House of the Dragon to task over changes it made to his book Fire & Blood…and then he quickly took it down. HBO released a statement. The fans went wild. There’s drama afoot in Westeros, some of which we find out in real time as we record the new episodes. Watch it below!

Is Martin acting childishly? Is his stance justified? Are efforts being made for damage control by HBO? Has everyone entered a dispute now? Will this impact “House of the Dragon” season 3 in any way? There’s quite a bit to unpack here

Somehow we also manage to hit another couple of topics, including The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Prime Video’s splashy fantasy series that at one time was seen as the main rival to House of the Dragon. The second season of that show is airing right now, and it’s going about how as well as we expected it to, for better or worse. And while we’re in Middle-earth, anybody else see this Lord of the Rings musical? And if you haven’t, should you?

Ultimately, HBO is putting up for auction numerous items from “Game of Thrones”. Oh, how I wish I could possess that dreaded shame bell! The auction goes live on October 10, so if your wallet is overflowing with cash, you might want to take a look
