Josh Duhamel recently opened up about how he felt when his ex-wife, Fergie, was more famous than him while they were married.
The couple first met while working on the TV show Las Vegas. They got married in 2007 and had a son, Axl, who is now 12 years old. Their marriage lasted for ten years.
Fans were surprised in 2017 when Fergie, now 50, and Josh Duhamel, 53, announced they were separating. Their divorce was finalized in 2019.
Despite being divorced, they continue to co-parent their children in a friendly way. She also seems to get along well with his current wife, 32-year-old Audra Mari, whom he married in 2022.
Josh Duhamel and his wife have returned to their hometown in North Dakota, leaving the Hollywood spotlight behind. They are parents to a two-year-old son named Shepherd and are expecting another baby girl.
Duhamel recently discussed on The Megyn Kelly Show how it felt to live in the shadow of his first wife’s incredible fame, and he spoke openly about those experiences.
It was a big change for me, honestly. She was a really famous star then, so it took some getting used to.
Ultimately, Fergie is just a regular person. She’s a wonderful mother, and we have a really good relationship. She and my wife actually get along very well, which is great.
The actor, known for his role in Transformers, admitted his concerns about the difference in their levels of fame were ‘likely just my own insecurity.’ He shared this while talking with Kelly.
It didn’t bother her nearly as much as it bothered me, I think. She was a huge star then, and I often felt overshadowed by her.
Kelly wondered if famous male singers’ husbands ever worried about groupies the way wives of male rock stars worry about fans pursuing their husbands on tour.
Duhamel said he didn’t know the answer, and that he never had those doubts while he was married.
I have a good relationship with Fergie, and we co-parent our son, Axl. She’s a wonderful mother. I’m now very happily married to my wife, Audra.
We’re excited to be expecting another daughter to join our family, and I’m so happy with the close relationship our children already have. More than anything, I want everyone to get along and have peace. Thankfully, they’ve handled this situation with a lot of maturity and kindness.
Following recent statements by Duhamel, a source shared with the Daily Mail the reason behind his breakup with Fergie.
According to a source, Josh’s desire for more children clashed with Fergie’s happiness with just one, and this disagreement became a major factor in their marital problems.
He’s very outgoing and loves being around people, while Fergie is more introverted and quiet. They’re both genuinely kind and good people, but they simply had different visions for their future and how they wanted to grow their family.
According to a source, Fergie and Josh remain on good terms and successfully co-parent their child. They have a positive relationship, with both speaking highly of each other and having no lingering animosity.
Duhamel recently complimented Fergie, describing her as ‘wholesome,’ a ‘great mom,’ and ‘very kind and non-confrontational’ during an interview on The Skinny Confidential podcast with Lauryn and Michael Bosstick.
According to a source at the Daily Mail, Fergie agrees with everything positive Josh shared about her on the podcast. The source said his comments were completely truthful and heartfelt.
According to another source, Fergie is a wonderful mother and she and her ex-partner are great at co-parenting. Family is a high priority for her, but she’s much happier and more fulfilled when she’s independent and free to pursue her own interests.
According to a source who spoke with the Daily Mail, Fergie’s departure from the Black Eyed Peas may be due to a desire for more independence. While she still has a good relationship with the group, she reportedly flourishes when she’s able to pursue her own creative vision without feeling limited.
When explaining his split to the Bossticks, Duhamel said he and Fergie simply had different perspectives on life, and he was okay with that.
In a 2023 interview with Graham Bensinger, he explained more about what caused the problems in his first marriage.
He explained that they simply drifted apart as their interests changed. As he got older, he really wanted to return to North Dakota, but that wasn’t something she wanted either.
Duhamel admitted he never felt at home in Hollywood. He found the lifestyle overwhelming and longed for a simpler life, explaining he’s not one for red carpets or the typical Hollywood scene. He believes that if you’re not cautious, the LA lifestyle can be draining.
He enthusiastically described his wife as a perfect match, explaining they share a strong connection as fellow North Dakotans who both enjoy spending time at the lake, prioritizing family, and love children.
