Grey’s Anatomy’s season finale will be the end for two beloved characters as the actors exit show

Two popular characters are leaving Grey’s Anatomy after the current season. Kevin McKidd, who plays Owen Hunt, and Kim Raver, who plays Teddy Altman, will both be departing the show. Both actors joined the series over a decade ago – McKidd in 2008 and Raver in 2009 – and have been fan favorites ever since.

After a relationship filled with challenges and periods of separation, the couple recently finalized their divorce following a five-year marriage.

The show will end with its finale on May 7th. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the decision to leave was based on creative differences, but cast members haven’t ruled out the possibility of returning in the future.

McKidd shared that Grey’s Anatomy has been a significant part of his life, both professionally and personally, and he’s very thankful for all the opportunities the show has provided him.

Now that this part of my career is ending, I’m excited about the future—creating new projects, sharing new stories, and using my experience to grow in the next stage of my professional life.

He expressed his gratitude to Shonda Rhimes, the show’s creator, for developing the character of Owen and for supporting him when he started directing.

Kim Raver, who has also directed episodes of the show, shared that playing Dr. Teddy Altman is a role she’ll always cherish. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers gave her sixteen years ago when they first cast her in the part.

I gotta say, Meg Marinis, the showrunner, is amazing, and so were the people who ran things before her. And Debbie Allen? Seriously talented – both as a castmate and when she directs. Everyone involved just really brings their A-game!

She continued, saying it’s been a joy working with her incredibly talented cast and dedicated crew, and she’ll always cherish her time with them.

Marinis hinted that although the characters’ time on the show is ending, it’s not a permanent farewell. They expressed deep appreciation for the actors’ contributions, talent, and the memorable moments they created, and shared excitement for their future endeavors.

Grey’s Anatomy airs on ABC in the US. Previous seasons are streaming on Disney+ in the UK.
