Reports suggesting a video game tied to The Batman movie franchise, featuring Colin Farrell’s portrayal of The Penguin in an upcoming series, have been refuted by director and DC Studios joint head, James Gunn.
Regrettably, there’s absolutely no validity to these stories, Gunn clarified in the discussion about Threads, addressing the unfounded rumors from Puck News (as reported by GameSpot) suggesting a game related to Matt Reeves’ The Batman, featuring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader.
It’s not surprising that currently there is no new Batman game being developed, which is unfortunate considering that the last console-based Bats game was Batman: Arkham Knight in 2015. While owners of Meta Quest 3 can anticipate Batman: Arkham Shadow, it’s been nearly a decade since we’ve had a standalone Batman game.
Indeed, the Arkham universe saw Batman appearing as a brainwashed villain in “Suicide Squad: Justice League’s Downfall” earlier this year, yet that’s as close as we’ve gotten so far. Meanwhile, a sequel to The Batman is on the horizon, and it will be preceded by The Penguin on HBO’s Max service/Sky Atlantic on 19th September.
Still, you can always play as The Batman with a free R.Patz skin in Batman: Arkham Knight. Better than nothing, I guess.
