Radio host Amy Gerard reveals the one big problem with getting breast checks with implants - after shock cancer diagnosis

As a lifestyle expert with extensive experience in health and wellness, I wholeheartedly empathize with Amy Gerard’s concerns about breast checks and mammograms, especially given her unique circumstances. Her recent battles with basal cell carcinoma and the subsequent surgery on her face have undoubtedly reinforced the importance of regular health check-ups for all women.

Australian radio personality Amy Gerard has shared her worries regarding breast examinations following her disclosure that she has breast enhancements.

During their chat on KIIS Network’s Chris Page and Amy Gerard morning show on Sunday, Amy emphasized the importance of regular check-ups for women, yet confessed she sometimes found the procedure a bit bewildering.

Gerard started by saying, “Ten years ago, I underwent a breast augmentation procedure, which may set me apart from some other women.”

She mentioned that she has been diligently exploring and examining herself for any unusual bumps or lumps.

She admitted, “In all truthfulness, I’m unsure if I handle situations differently because I have an implant, or if I simply follow the same path as someone without one.”

“I understand that during a mammogram, the breast is compressed much like a sandwich in a press. However, it’s hard for me to grasp how this process works if there’s a breast implant involved.”

A mammogram involves placing your breast between two level surfaces, much like placing it between two plates, on a specialized X-ray device for imaging called a mammography machine. The compression helps to get clearer images of the breast tissue.

As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to clarify that even if you have breast implants, you can still undergo mammography screenings. However, due to the presence of the implant, the radiologist might need to take extra images to ensure a thorough examination. It’s always essential to communicate openly with your healthcare provider about any concerns or questions regarding these procedures.

These additional images, known as implant-displaced views, aid the radiologist in assessing tissue that might typically be obscured due to the presence of implants.

Gerard acknowledged that he understood you need to put it into the machine for it to be squeezed, but he felt it was necessary for him to go check his own as well.

It comes just days after the radio star had surgery to remove cancer from her face.

Gerard dropped the bombshell in her Instagram Stories on Tuesday.

Over several social media updates, a mother of three shared a detailed account – complete with visuals – about the surgical removal of basal cell carcinoma from her forehead.

In a post-surgery image, Gerard revealed ‘this is the 5th [basal cell carcinoma] I’ve had cut out and I never used to even put my face in the sun’.

Another photo showed a long row of stitches across Gerard’s forehead.

Later on, Amy shared that the surgery significantly changed her look by making her forehead skin taut.

The author tried hard not to laugh, but it seemed like his usual expression anyway.

She expressed worry, saying that the surgeon had stretched her skin taut as he sewed her up.

The procedure had raised her eyebrows, giving Gerard a permanently worried expression.

‘Let’s hope it settles. It’s very tight.’

The health update comes weeks after Gerard detailed how she received a mum-shaming remark on Instagram.

One of her followers had privately messaged her in June to tell her they thought it was ‘inappropriate’ and ‘unhygienic’ that she kisses her kids on the lips.

Amy, a mom to three energetic children named Charli, Bobby, and Kobe, publicly responded to a critical fan without mincing words during her live broadcast.

The message read: ‘Hi Amy, I love your videos with your kid but I think it’s really inappropriate that you kiss your kids on the lips. Don’t you think it sends the wrong message and it’s also so unhygienic?’

In response, Amy, wife of Rhian, assertively dismissed the troll, emphasizing that expressing affection towards one’s children is beneficial and part of a healthy parental relationship.

‘Firstly, it’s my kid and I will kiss him wherever I want on the face,’ she replied.

1) Additionally, it’s important to note that he is just four years old, not an adult at 18. Given that I am his mother who carried and gave birth to him, nurtured him with my own milk, I feel it’s a divine privilege to kiss those irresistible little lips of his.

“I will continue doing it until he says, ‘Mum, you’re embarrassing,’ just like my other two kids did.”

‘There’s nothing unhygienic, in fact, it is so healthy for parents to show their kids affection.
