Following several days of online accusations between soccer player Jorginho, his wife Catherine Harding (also known as singer Cat Cavelli), and musician Chappell Roan, Duvier released a statement on Instagram Wednesday night. The dispute stemmed from an incident that upset Jorginho and Harding’s daughter, Ada, just before her birthday, and all parties denied responsibility.

The recent controversy has sparked days of online discussion about how singer Roan interacts with her fans. She’s previously spoken about the importance of setting boundaries with both fans and the media, and has been open about her difficult experiences with fame.

Duvier, claiming he wasn’t employed by Roan when the incident occurred, stated he typically doesn’t respond to online rumors, but that these specific claims are untrue and damaging to his reputation.

As a huge fan who was at the show, I want to clarify what happened from my perspective. I acted completely on my own, not as part of Chappell Roan’s team, security, or anyone else’s. I made a split-second decision based on what hotel staff told me, things I’d seen leading up to the concert, and the fact that we were in a location with increased security concerns. My conversation with the mother was calm and I genuinely tried to do the right thing, but I’m truly sorry for how things turned out.

Roan performed at Lollapalooza Brazil over the weekend, and soccer player Jorginho was there with his family. He mentioned that his 11-year-old daughter thought she saw the singer at their hotel in São Paulo.

Roan wrote that the girl walked past his table, seemed to check if it was the right place, smiled, and then returned to her mother. She didn’t speak or ask for anything.

Jorginho claims a security guard interrupted their breakfast after the girl sat down, scolding them. The guard reportedly told Harding that she shouldn’t let her daughter “disrespect” or “harass” others.

I spoke with Flamengo player Jorginho – that’s Jorge Luiz Frello Filho, for those keeping track – and he told me the young girl involved was understandably devastated. He said she was really shaken up and cried quite a bit, which, honestly, you’d expect given the circumstances.

On Sunday, Roan addressed the online drama on Instagram, saying she was confused by it all. She clarified that the security guard wasn’t hired for her personally and that no one had contacted her directly.

I didn’t tell the security guard to approach the mother and child. They didn’t come to me, and they weren’t causing any trouble.

“I do not hate people who are fans of my music. I do not hate children.”

Harding addressed the recent controversy three days ago with a video on Instagram, aiming to clarify things after Roan’s statement. She explained, “This security guard wasn’t actually a hotel employee. He works with the artists.”

I’m not sure who he was, but a man who I believe was with her was present. I don’t know if she asked him to do anything, and that’s all I can say.

According to his Instagram profile, Duvier is a martial artist and security expert who provided protection for Kim Kardashian in 2016.
