Angie Kent reveals her father’s battle with cancer and the shocking reason her family kept the illness from her

As an ardent follower of Australian reality TV, I have been captivated by the journey of Angie Kent, a woman who has shown incredible resilience and strength throughout her life. Her recent revelation about her father’s battle with blood cancer and her own pansexuality is yet another testament to her courage and authenticity.

Television personality Angie Kent shares insights into her father Matt’s tough fight against leukemia.

34-year-old Gogglebox Australia cast member revealed to Stellar Magazine this week that her parents hid his COVID-19 diagnosis from her until she visited home during the 2020 pandemic.

She shared, “For some time now, Mum and Dad kept it hidden from me, but they revealed it upon my return home since they understand my sensitivity. Witnessing someone I’ve long considered strong endure that struggle was incredibly difficult for me.”

Angie admitted that she got deeply moved when confronted with the truth about the disease that claimed her grandfather’s life when she was only eleven years old.

She mentioned that her father appeared very thin, almost like a skull, and his hair began to come out in large chunks. In response, he decided to shave his head completely.

Angie mentioned that her father, who typically values independence and enjoys working, struggled with handling his illness.

She shared that he disliked spending all day in bed, becoming quite irritable as a result. Eventually, the pain became unbearable, rendering him almost speechless for a time and causing him to withdraw.

However, following his bone marrow transplant as treatment for cancer, Angie remarked that her father had made a remarkable recovery.

‘He’s like a cockroach – truly, the way he’s bounced back from the bone marrow transplant has blown everyone away… he has bounced back like a champion.’ 

From 2015 to 2018, Angie made an appearance on Gogglebox Australia. During this time, the reality series showcased Angie and her friend, Yvie Jones, as they shared their responses to various television shows together.

In 2019, the duo featured on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, with Angie being the tenth contestant to depart from the jungle.

In the same year, the striking blonde made an appearance on the fifth series of reality dating show, The Bachelorette. Eventually, she found herself in a romantic involvement with social media influencer, Carlin Sterritt.

The pair broke up in June 2020, less than a year after they began their relationship.

Following the breakup, Angie revealed that she is pansexual. 

To The Herald Sun, the television personality shared that in the past, she exclusively dated males due to societal norms and expectations.

She confided to Confidential that she’s always identified as pansexual, although she hadn’t openly discussed it before.

It’s more about societal norms rather than something I’ve delved into deeply before. Now, I find myself cheering on, “Go for it! Embrace the social scene!”

Pansexuality refers to an attraction towards people regardless of their sex or gender identity. 

Angie expressed that it doesn’t matter to her who someone is; what truly matters is the connection they can make. She mentioned that gender has never held significant importance for her.

‘I have always dated dudes because it was expected of me,’ she admitted.
