As a die-hard horror fan who’s seen more chilling classics than I care to count, the trailer for Apartment 7A has sent shivers down my spine! Growing up in the era of VHS tapes and late-night viewings, Rosemary’s Baby was one of those films that left an indelible mark on me. So, the prospect of a prequel set in the same haunting Bramford building, with none other than Julia Garner at the helm, is absolutely thrilling!
The streaming platform, Paramount+, has unveiled the initial preview for the series titled “Apartment 7A“, which serves as a prequel to the iconic 1960s horror film “Rosemary’s Baby” starring Julia Garner.
The forthcoming movie, situated in 1965 New York City, a couple of years prior to the timeline of “Rosemary’s Baby”, will delve into the happenings within the Bramford apartment building, long before Mia Farrow’s character Rosemary resided there.
According to the plot summary, “Apartment 7A” delves into the eerie events that transpired at the Bramford building prior to Rosemary’s arrival. As a dancer myself who’s struggling to make ends meet, I find myself inexorably pulled into a world of darkness when an enigmatic, influential older couple offers me a chance at stardom after a debilitating injury.
In the lead role, Garner from Ozark is paired with Terry, a character struggling as a dancer. This ensemble also includes Dianne Wiest, famously known for Edward Scissorhands, Jim Sturgess who graced Across the Universe, and Kevin McNally, recognized for his work in Pirates of the Caribbean.
The cast is expanded to include Marli Siu (from “Everything I Know About Love”), Andrew Buchan (“All the Money in the World”), Rosy McEwen (“Blue Jean”), and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (“Wonka”) in additional parts.
In the trailer, we see that Garner’s character, Terry, relocates to New York with aspirations of becoming a professional dancer. However, her dream takes an unexpected turn when she suffers a severe foot injury.
Upon encountering a destitute dancer on the street, Wiest and McNally’s ominous figures propose a residence for her within the Bramford building. However, circumstances gradually deteriorate, and Terry grows wary as she suspects her benefactors may have hidden intentions behind their generous offer of shelter.
Terry comments in the trailer, “There seems to be an issue with these individuals.” He also implies that he believes some event involving the previous female resident may have occurred.
Apartment 7A is helmed by Natalie Erika James (of the acclaimed film Relic), who co-writes with Christian White and Skylar James.
On Friday, September 27, apartment 7A will be ready for streaming in the United States on Paramount+. For those in the UK, streaming will begin a day later, starting from September 28.
