On a vibrant Friday in Malibu, Jamie Foxx drew focus while wearing a striking orange coat, as he graciously signed autographs for adoring fans. Earlier, he had shared insights regarding the enigmatic health issue he’s been dealing with.
56-year-old American actor and singer was spotted mingling with admirers at the Malibu Chili Cook-off event, where he was accompanied by his friends and loved ones.
He wore a white fedora, a Celine black T-shirt, white trainers, and a shiny black cross-body bag.
With a pair of subtly tinted sunglasses, the actor from Not Another Church Movie appeared to be in great mood.
In July, Jamie ultimately spoke up about the events that resulted in his enigmatic hospital stay in April 2023.
During the shooting of Back in Action alongside Cameron Diaz in Atlanta, Jamie experienced a sudden, unidentified medical crisis that required hospitalization. Later on, he disclosed that he had lost the ability to walk and felt as if he was approaching the end (the tunnel), but not experiencing salvation (not seeing the light) while fighting for his life.
I myself, overjoyed and passionate fan that I am, was fortunate enough to witness him in Phoenix during the sweltering July days. There, he candidly shared his personal ordeal, tracing it back to a persistent headache so severe that even Advil couldn’t alleviate it. Unbeknownst to us all, this seemingly routine disclosure led to an unexpected turn of events. Three weeks later, he miraculously regained consciousness, with no recollection of the incident that had transpired.
Oscar- and Grammy-winner Jamie snapped his fingers and said: ‘I was gone for 20 days,’ as fans around him gasped.
According to the Ray star, he was taken by his sister and daughter to a doctor for the first time, and when asked about it later, he mentioned that the next doctor had pointed to his head and said, “It seems there’s an issue up there.”
He then said: ‘I won’t say it on camera.’
In the chilly month of December 2023, I found myself stepping into the spotlight for my first post-health crisis appearance at the Critics Choice Association’s event. During this moment, I chose to share a profoundly personal account of my near-death experience, using the phrase, “I saw the tunnel but not the light.” This expression signifies that although I glimpsed the threshold between life and death, I did not encounter the promised peace or salvation often associated with this phrase.
The actor was visibly moved as he accepted the Vanguard Award in a 12-minute speech at the association’s Celebration of Cinema & Television: Honoring Black, Latino and AAPI Achievements in Los Angeles.
According to Deadline, it was reported six months ago that Jamie was unable to walk, but he chose not to disclose much information regarding the health issue that led to his hospitalization.
He remarked, “You won’t believe it, but just six months back, I wouldn’t have been able to do what I just did on that stage.” Pausing at the microphone, he added, “In truth, I was barely able to walk.”
He expressed his gratitude to everyone, acknowledging that he’s faced some challenges along the way, which was met with a standing ovation.
He went on to say, “Every moment is precious to me now – it’s unlike anything before. I wouldn’t want my toughest foe to endure what I experienced because it’s challenging when you can almost taste the end… when you catch a glimpse of the tunnel. I saw the tunnel, but not the light at the end.”
In that tunnel, it was swelteringly hot, and I wasn’t quite sure of my destination. Suddenly, doubt crept in: “Gosh, is this the correct path?”
In his address, he joked about unfounded rumors and speculations that circulated during the time he was in the hospital and out of sight for a number of months.
‘I’m not a clone, I’m not a clone. I know a lot of people who was saying I was cloned out there.’
In closing, he expressed that he now holds life and his artistic endeavors in higher regard.
Besides expressing appreciation, Jamie additionally acknowledged and thanked his loved ones – his sister and daughter specifically – for their invaluable assistance during his recovery period.
At the onset of the program, Jamie received his accolade; however, unlike other awardees, there was no prior announcement about his recognition.
Additionally, he shared with The Hollywood Reporter: “Now, I hold life in higher regard, and I appreciate my craft more. I spent countless hours watching films and listening to music, hoping to pass the time.”
“Persist with your creative pursuits, my friend. Even when it seems as though things might end abruptly… Let me assure you, keep going with your art, and hold onto it fiercely so that no one can snatch it away from you.”
Originally, Foxx reappeared on Instagram on May 3 by expressing gratitude in a written post. His message read: ‘Thank you for all the affection! I feel truly grateful.’
