Captain America star will return in Thunderbolts, reports say

As a seasoned Marvel fan with over two decades of comics and films under my belt, I must say that the news about Harrison Ford joining the Thunderbolts cast is nothing short of exhilarating! The man who brought Indiana Jones to life will now be gracing our screens as President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross.

Upcoming titles from Marvel Studios are brimming with excitement, potentially shaping the future of both heroes and villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In “Captain America: A New Era,” Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson takes center stage as the new Captain America, while “The Fantastic Four: Initial Leap” marks the long-awaited arrival of Marvel’s original family in the MCU.

Among the upcoming titles, it’s definitely Thunderbolts* that captures my attention the most. Essentially, it’s Marvel’s equivalent to DC’s Suicide Squad, with a group of well-known MCU characters like Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova, and Red Guardian banding together. This motley crew forms an alliance to combat a danger they can’t tackle individually.

However, it turns out that another major MCU character might be in it after all. And given the title of the movie, that’s not really that surprising.

Harrison Ford could appear in Thunderbolts*

According to a recent report from Variety, it looks like Harrison Ford will be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this time playing the role of President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in the upcoming film, Thunderbolts. This character was previously seen in the movie Captain America: Brave New World. The news has been widely shared and appreciated by fans.

It’s intriguing to note that Daniel Richtman, known for his insights on Marvel productions, claims an error was made regarding his appearance in the movie. However, prior to this statement, the character had been associated with the film through rumors and reports. David Harbour, the actor in question, expressed surprise during an interview with ComicBook.com about the public disclosure of his potential involvement, stating he wouldn’t discuss it because he doesn’t believe he’s officially announced for the movie yet. This has led fans to speculate that Harbour may indeed be part of the film.

After the passing of William Hurt in 2022, Ford assumes the character previously played by Hurt. Hurt first brought this role to life in 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk,” and later reprised it in “Captain America: Civil War” (2016), “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018), “Avengers: Endgame” (2019), and “Black Widow” (2021).

Fans have long pondered whether the character would transition into the Red Hulk during his various appearances, given his initial role as an adversary for Bruce Banner’s Hulk. The latest trailer for Captain America: Brave New World provides confirmation that this former general and Secretary of State will ascend to the presidency, and that he will subsequently transform into a giant, red figure similar to his comic book counterpart.

There are strong hints suggesting that the character’s role within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is likely to persist for a long time. Some whispers point towards a possible storyline similar to World War Hulk as part of the Multiverse Saga’s side-plot, although this hasn’t been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios yet. However, his apparent comeback in the upcoming film “Thunderbolts” might just be setting the stage for his continued involvement in the MCU. The Red Hulk could simply be the start of a new chapter rather than the final act.

It seems that the rumor is pointing towards Harrison Ford potentially playing Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in two films in 2025. Alongside the Red Hulk’s transformation, this would certainly be an exciting debut!
