He rose to fame as the beloved character of Nudge in the 90s sitcom Hey Dad!
Actor Christopher Truswell is back in the spotlight, appearing in an advertisement for life insurance designed for people over the age of 60.
In the 2025 advertisement ‘DIY 60’, the well-known and humorous actor portrays Gary, a man building a backyard bar alongside his son.
Though Truswell celebrated his 60th birthday in January, he looks much different than he did during his most popular years as a comedian, though he still has his signature curly hair.
For his role, Truswell is dressed in casual clothes ā blue jeans, a blue T-shirt, and a flannel shirt. He has a slightly receding hairline and a light beard.
Truswellās character explains he enjoys being prepared and, now that heās turned sixty, he wants to ensure his family is taken care of if something were to happen to him.
He then calls the insurance company and talks to a customer service representative to learn more about his policy.
A picture of Truswell appears on the Golden Insurance website as part of an ad campaign with the tagline, ‘Make your golden years shine with Golden Life Insurance.’
The serious nature of the commercial is a far cry from Truswell’s time on Hey Dad!Ā
The half-hour comedy series first appeared on Channel Seven in 1987 and became a huge success, running for 291 episodes until it finished in 1994.
Fans particularly loved Truswell’s character, Gerald ‘Nudge’ Noritas, because of his funny habit of sneaking food from his neighbors’ refrigerators.
He starred as the close friend of Martin, the main character in ‘Hey Dad!’, who was navigating family life after his wife passed away.
The show’s cast also featuredĀ Julie McGregor, Paul Smith,Ā Simone Buchanan andĀ Sarah Monahan.
British actor Truswell appeared in the medical drama All Saints from 2006 to 2007. He then went on to play roles in the popular series Packed to the Rafters in 2008 and Underbelly in 2010.
He was last prominently featured in the 2017 series Blue Murder: Killer Cop, which continued the story of the acclaimed 1995 series Blue Murder. The original series was a true crime drama focusing on the corrupt police officer Roger Rogerson.
He also performed voice work in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones (2002).
The experienced performer remains very busy, according to his Star Now profile. For the past twenty years, he’s primarily focused on stage performances, even playing with a Blues Brothers tribute band.
Also a musician, Truswell has performed in a musical tribute to the famed 60s pop band The Monkees.Ā
During a 2020 interview on The Morning Show, Truswell revealed he was living in the Blue Mountains with his partner, Suzanne Richards.
