Brooke Shields’ youngest daughter learned of her mom’s sexual assault for 1st time when watching Pretty Baby documentary

As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I find myself deeply moved by Brooke Shields’ journey, as depicted in the 2023 documentary ‘Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields’. The complex dynamics between motherhood and personal experiences are beautifully portrayed in this narrative.

In the 2023 documentary “Pretty Baby,” I, Brooke Shields, shared my personal experience of being sexually assaulted. However, it was only when she watched the film that my youngest daughter learned about this traumatic event in my life.

In an interview with People, the author of ‘Brooks Shields is Not Allowed to Grow Old’ shared that one aspect of motherhood involves continuously learning from one’s children.

‘I didn’t prepare her,’ the 59-year-old mother of two said. ‘It was a miscommunication.

In simpler terms, I thought she might acknowledge the challenges in my profession regarding the sexualization of women, given our strong relationship and normal life. However, I underestimated the impact of these issues on me, expecting her to say something like, “You’ve overcome a lot, yet look how far we’ve come together.”

Instead, her daughter Grier, 18, had a completely different reaction. 

The teenager confided in the publication, stating they were exploring similar topics as the world at large, but they delved much further and on a very personal level. They found it extremely difficult to cope with the subject matter.

I shared with her, “However, it has a positive resolution.” To which she responded, “And I can’t accept the idea that something unfortunate might have occurred for you.”

‘She ended up missing the happy part,’ the Golden Globes nominee said.

‘She felt helpless, and just as a mom, we make mistakes and sometimes we make assumptions.’

In simpler terms, the actress playing the Mother of the Bride stated that her eldest child, Rowan, who is 21 years old, was aware of the assault depicted in the movie before she watched it.

She shares both daughters with her husband Chris Henchy, 60. 

The Emmy-nominated film offered a retrospective on Shields’ career, highlighting her early stardom as a child actress portraying a prostitute in the provocative movie “Pretty Baby,” released in 1978.

Apart from that, she discussed her roles in the movies “The Blue Lagoon” and “Endless Love,” as well as how being labeled a teenage sex symbol affected her personal experiences.

In her early twenties, she experienced sexual assault at the hands of a prominent Hollywood personality, which she first disclosed in public through this movie.

Shields has chosen not to publicly name her assailant.

“‘Seeing the documentary or observing your parents being viewed as figures with varying public opinions is quite an unusual predicament, according to Shields. I’ve gained a lot of insight from simply listening to them,'”
