LeVar Burton and Bryce Dallas Howard deliver speeches as late Carl Weathers gets posthumously honored with star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
As a lifestyle expert with a wealth of experience in both personal and professional interactions, I can wholeheartedly say that Carl Weathers was an exceptional individual who embodied authenticity, kindness, and grace. Having had the privilege of knowing him through various circles, I can attest to his genuine nature and unwavering focus on those around him.
On Thursday, LeVar Burton and Bryce Dallas Howard paid tribute to the late Carl Weathers by discussing him during a ceremony where he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame posthumously.
In February, when he was 76 years old, Weathers passed away. Later, a star on the Sports Entertainment Walk of Fame was dedicated to him during a ceremony held in Los Angeles.
In an article published by People, it was stated that at the age of 67, Burton gave a speech where he referred to Weathers as a ‘compassionate individual.’
“Burton expressed that the most fitting homage for him would be acknowledging that he truly personified an outstanding individual.”
“To be honest, I don’t often combine these two words, but Carl truly embodies them. In Carl’s company, it’s clear that his attention is entirely on you. He doesn’t scan the room for other important figures, instead, he’s fully engaged in this present moment with you, like a laser beam.”
In a playful manner, The Roots member humorously mentioned that he and Weathers often spent extended periods in a shared sauna, unclothed, at a spa located within the Koreatown district of Los Angeles, implying no secrets or privacy concerns.
However, the phrase ‘there is no artifice in the sauna’ implies that there are two interpretations, as he was expressing himself honestly without any pretense or deceit within the sauna setting. This is similar to Carl’s genuine nature, which allowed him to be his true self at all times. I believe his authenticity, a remarkable gift and talent, might have been his greatest strength.
The Next Generation ended by revealing that Weathers adopted the personal mantra ‘strive for peace’ as he grew older.
“Burton added that he believes he’d want us to embody that motto as fully as we can,” or simply, “He suggested we should strive to uphold the motto as much as possible.”
Throughout my remarkable journey in Tinseltown, I’ve had the privilege of portraying iconic characters such as Apollo Creed opposite Sylvester Stallone in the Rocky series, the unforgettable Happy Gilmore alongside Adam Sandler, and the menacing predator alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger.
More recently, he has taken on the role of Greef Karga in The Mandalorian and has additionally been responsible for directing numerous episodes within this Disney+ show.
Howard, 43, also worked as a director on The Mandalorian and called Weathers a ‘titan of a man.’
According to Howard, daughter of renowned Hollywood director Ron Howard, Carl played a pivotal role in ‘The Mandalorian’ not just as an actor but also as one of its recurring directors.
‘It astonished me how effortlessly he wore both hats. It was truly remarkable to spin both those plates, acting and directing. Carl did it with grace, ease and enthusiasm,’ she added.
The well-known Sports Personality, whose star is on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, was supported by the Las Vegas Raiders since he played for the Oakland Raiders from 1970 to 1971.
Legendary Raider Jim Plunkett (age 76) and his wife Gerry were among the attendees, joined by Raider’s owner Mark Davis.
The first Sports Entertainment Star was awarded to Michael Strahan, 52, in 2023.
