Approximately two years past, Alice Evans, who was the focal point of one of Hollywood’s bitterest divorce conflicts, initiated a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe.
On a recent post, Alice, aged 56, asserted that she was now struggling financially, unable to purchase groceries, manage her utility expenses, or meet the legal costs associated with her ongoing dispute with her former husband and father of her two children, the renowned British actor Ioan Gruffudd.
She shared that she’s finding it tough being a single mom to her children, and revealed that her checking accounts, savings, and retirement fund have all been depleted. She requested assistance from her network of followers, asking if they could spare anything.
The actress who played 102 Dalmatians expressed concern that failing to acquire legal representation for future court appearances might lead to being held in contempt of court. Unfortunately, her urgent appeals for funds only managed to raise a total of $6,974, falling significantly short of the $25,000 goal.
But was Alice really penniless when she set up the GoFundMe page?
They reached a consensus regarding their divorce and child custody matters about two months back. However, the recent financial hearings, initiated this month, have unveiled another layer in their ongoing story.
According to documents filed by Gruffudd on Tuesday evening, he asserts that Alice actually had access to a combined total of $86,457 in her two bank accounts when she was soliciting funds from supporters.
According to Gruffud, her British account (originally in pounds) equated to approximately $78,740, while her American account held around $7,717. However, on November 12, 2022, she expressed on social media that she was completely out of money, had a three-day weekend ahead with two children to care for, and had nothing in her bank account.
For the past two years, ever since my ex walked out, I’ve depleted my entire life savings. During this time, while juggling the role of a full-time mother, I covered all the expenses. Unfortunately, now, every penny is spent.
This week, the documents provided by her former spouse stated that at the same period, she had a grand total of $24,766 in her possession.
For a while now, Alice has often expressed difficulties with finances in the ongoing conflict with Ioan, her spouse of 14 years, who recently became engaged to actress Bianca Wallace, aged 31.
According to court documents, it is alleged that he was repeatedly sent emotional letters from his former spouse, stating she couldn’t afford her rent. Ioan claims that in October 2023, Alice wrote a letter threatening the relationship with their daughters Ella, aged 14, and Elsie, 10, by saying something along the lines of “It appears we won’t be able to maintain our efforts towards repairing our relationship because I’m unsure about our future living arrangements.”

A contentious issue arising in the ongoing rift between Ioan and Alice involves a luxurious Rolex watch worn by Ioan’s new fiancee. Alice asserted two months ago that this watch was actually a gift from the actor himself. Recent court documents suggest that Alice accused Bianca of wearing the Rolex, yet struggling to provide for their children, claiming she had to rely on food assistance.
In my own words, I’d say: “I assert that the watch is not mine, and let me clarify that a close acquaintance of mine found it implausible to assume I purchased it for someone with whom I have no knowledge about such a transaction.”
Currently, Ioan alleges that he unwittingly gave Alice a significant sum of around $400,000 for maintenance. This revelation has reportedly made Ioan, the popular Welsh actor from ITV drama Liar in 2016, more and more agitated due to Alice’s assertions of financial hardship.

Although Ioan mostly kept quiet throughout the conflict, Alice – born to American parents but raised in Bristol – frequently expresses her grievances towards X (previously known as Twitter). One of the celebrity’s companions remarks: ‘Ioan disapproves of her actions. He prefers a private resolution so their daughters aren’t entangled in a public argument, which saddens him greatly.’

Alice did not mistreat or torment him; however, the restriction against discussing either Ioan or his fiancée on her platforms has been prolonged for three years, meaning she cannot post about them until August 2025.
Last August, a judge in Los Angeles granted Gruffudd’s petition for his two girls to receive regular therapy. The judge also decided that Evans should bring the children for weekly ‘bonding’ meetings.
However, in the financial statement submitted on Tuesday, Ioan claims that Alice consistently declined to attend their sessions with their daughters or, when she did, caused disruptions. On one instance, according to him, Alice abruptly lay down on the floor and subsequently declared having a panic attack.
Additionally, he imputed that Alice was responsible for staging emotional episodes, summoning emergency services during therapy sessions, and hastily urging her children to depart shortly after their arrival at the therapy session.
In my professional opinion, Alice claimed that the therapist was showing favoritism towards a specific individual, and this led to heated exchanges between them in the presence of their children. Notably, no single therapy session was concluded due to the occurrences I mentioned.
In Ioan’s account, he suggests that the therapy’s failure might have been due to Alice’s persistent interruptions and her tendency to isolate herself during the sessions.
In the heat of my ardent fandom, I can’t help but share that he stood firm, affirming his choice. Despite the complexities, he opted for a resolution—settling his joint custody dispute in June, a decision that echoes with determination and devotion to what truly matters to him.
In my heartfelt words, I penned down how my choice to establish a new home was influenced by Alice’s persistent misuse of the family court system, aiming to maintain her public presence, unfortunately, at the cost of myself and our kids.
He also said in the paperwork that he had only spent nine hours with his children this year.
According to one of Ioan’s friends, he’s been going through an extremely tough time due to suspicions of dishonesty from Alice. Despite the unpleasantness, what’s most unfortunate is the impact on the children, as they’ve grown up amidst this difficult and painful divorce situation.
