Kathy Griffin has shocked her longtime fans after undergoing a blonde bombshell makeover.
The 65-year-old comedian revealed her new hairstyle was inspired by Kim Kardashian’s initial blonde look, jokingly saying she was ‘trying to keep up with the Kardashians!’
Griffin confirmed her blonde hair is real, explaining she spent a significant amount of time growing and coloring it to achieve her current style.
Oh my gosh, you guys, she actually dyed her hair this color! And it’s her real hair, she said! She’s been growing it out for ages, like, a really long time, and it looks amazing! I was so excited when I saw it in her latest YouTube video!
‘I know it’s cheesy and I’m too old, but I’ve always wanted to try this hair color.’
Okay, so I’ve been seeing some chatter online about Griffin’s hair, and while she insists it’s all hers, a lot of people in the comments are convinced she’s wearing a wig. It’s always interesting to see how closely people follow these things, and honestly, whether it’s a wig or not, she looks fabulous!
RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Willam Belli joked about a wig being so securely attached that it completely covered the wearer’s hairline, saying you wouldn’t be able to find any scalp even with powerful tools like a pickaxe and a laser.
One fan commented that the hair was either a very realistic wig, like something Nicole Kidman might wear, or mostly hair extensions. They added that they were speaking as someone who is gay and has professional experience as a hairdresser.
Look, I’m not trying to be critical here, but I noticed something a little ironic. You were so open about getting a facelift, which is great – honesty is refreshing! But it seems like you’re not being entirely truthful about this other thing, and that feels a bit off to me. It’s just… a bit of a contrast, you know?
Someone else chimed in, saying, ‘Kathy… seriously. You can tell it’s a wig just by looking at how thick and realistic it is. It’s a really good one, actually – a very convincing wig, but still a wig.’
Despite a few naysayers, the rest of Griffin’s fans praised her new look.
‘Kathy, it’s super flattering and de-ages you by a good decade,’ commented one.
Another wrote, ‘I think it softens you, this needs to be your permanent hair color.’
Even some of Griffin’s celebrity friends commented on his new look, with Lisa Rinna, Carson Kressley, and Beverly D’Angelo all praising his blonde hair.
Griffin has said she’ll eventually go back to her famous red hair, but she’s enjoying being blonde for a while and wants to try something different.
Griffin recently had cosmetic surgery, including her third facelift and an eyelid lift with a popular cat-eye technique.
‘I have a new face, you guys,’ she announced last August on YouTube.
‘I had a facelift. That’s right. By the way, this is my third,’ she continued.
‘I just think it’s funny that I’m even having one, because it’s not like I’m known for my face.’
She revealed she had facial surgery performed by Dr. Ben Talei, a well-known surgeon who also did a facelift for singer Sia.
In her 2009 memoir, Kathy Griffin revealed she had a nose job at age 26, admitting it was due to pressure from Hollywood’s expectations of beauty.
She recalled being constantly told that her appearance and career prospects would improve if she changed her nose. People frequently suggested she get a nose job, leading her to feel like she had an exceptionally large nose.
When I was younger, I was easily influenced. After hearing something repeatedly, I began to believe it and eventually decided to get a rhinoplasty.
