HBO has released a sneak peek trailer for the new Harry Potter TV series, and announced it will debut this Christmas.
As a huge fan, I was so excited to hear the news back in 2023 about the HBO series! They’ve cast Dominic McLaughlin, a really talented young Scottish actor, to play Harry Potter – the Boy Who Lived. I think he’s going to be fantastic!
Fans will be happy to hear the series is coming out sooner than expected! It was originally planned for 2027, but it’s arriving earlier than that.
The show will premiere on HBO at Christmas 2026 and will be available to stream on HBO Max in countries where the service is offered, including Germany, Italy, and the UK and Ireland.
The new trailer gives a sneak peek at the start of Harry’s journey, showing how he was treated poorly by the Dursleys, his first encounter with the kind giant Hagrid, and his arrival at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
It also hints at previously unseen moments, including scenes of Harry attending a Muggle school.
The trailer begins with Harry’s Aunt Petunia saying he’s ‘nothing special’.
Honestly, life was just…normal, until his eleventh birthday. Then, BAM! The Hogwarts letter arrived, and everything exploded with possibility! It wasn’t just a letter, it was a key – unlocking a whole secret world of the best friends anyone could ask for, unbelievable adventures, and, of course, MAGIC! I mean, seriously, magic! It changed absolutely everything.
As someone who’s seen a lot of life changes, I can tell you that new beginnings often come with unexpected challenges. For Harry, that means facing a formidable foe—someone from his history who’s determined to make things difficult.
The initial trailer was released only a day after HBO shared the first picture, which depicted the young wizard getting ready to play Quidditch and take off on his broomstick.
People have been waiting for news about the show, and a recent photo on the official Harry Potter Instagram page offered a sneak peek.
Oh my gosh, you guys, the new still is everything! It’s Harry, from behind, in his Gryffindor Quidditch gear – you can just see how amazing he looks! And the back of his jersey? ‘POTTER 7’! I’m seriously losing it, it’s perfect!
You can just catch a glimpse of Harry’s Nimbus 2000 as he flies toward the Gryffindor and Hufflepuff banners.
A banner with the names ‘Fred and George’ – likely the Weasley twins – is also visible.
One person commented: ‘This looks better than I could have ever imagined!’
Another wrote: ‘I have officially passed out. Someone help me up.’
A third penned: ‘I’M SO EXCITED I CAN’T FOCUS ON ANYTHING ELSE.’
A fourth chimed in: ‘Potterheads around the world let’s go.’
While a fifth remarked: ‘I’m not crying…. you’re crying.’
While this was the first picture released officially, fans had seen several leaked photos online over the previous months.
Among the earliest came from July 2025, with Dominic and co-stars filming scenes at London Zoo.
Oh my gosh, this scene! It’s Dudley Dursley’s birthday, and it’s just so iconic! As a huge fan, I immediately recognized it – it’s such a key moment from the very first Harry Potter book. It really sets the stage for everything, you know?
Harry first demonstrates his magical abilities when he frees a Burmese python from its enclosure.
Dominic, playing the role of Harry, wore a blue hoodie and his famous round glasses.
Dudley, played by Amos Kitson, along with his aunt Petunia (Bel Powley) and uncle Vernon (Daniel Rigby), appeared alongside him in scenes shot near the penguin enclosure. They all looked unhappy while filming.
The actors traveled around in bright green golf carts, and onlookers were surprised when they recognized them.
About a month after that, Dominic and Nick Frost, who plays Rubeus Hagrid, were seen filming in London while shooting scenes of their characters traveling to Diagon Alley.
The show was thrown into disarray recently when Apple Maps accidentally published images of its confidential sets, sparking anger among studio executives.
Show officials have kept details of the sets secret, but new images from Apple Maps have now leaked online, revealing what they look like.
This offers fans their first glimpse into the enchanting world of the series, filmed at Warner Bros Studio in Leavesden, and follows young wizard Harry’s journey as he starts at Hogwarts.
The images feature several famous locations from the Harry Potter series, such as aerial views of Hagrid’s hut, home to Hogwarts’ groundskeeper.
Fans of the series will immediately recognize Gringotts Wizarding Bank, brought to life in Diagon Alley – a location well-known from the books and movies.
The filmmakers have recreated Privet Drive, the street where young Harry Potter was sent to live with his relatives, as a large set on the studio lot.
