Sigourney Weaver confirmed to be playing a part in The Mandalorian and Grogu

As a gamer with a deep appreciation for the rich tapestry of science-fiction and a soft spot for versatile actors who dare to break boundaries, I can hardly contain my excitement over Sigourney Weaver joining the cast of The Mandalorian and Grogu!

Sigourney Weaver has been a fixture in science-fiction films for decades, whether as the dauntless Ellen Ripley in James Cameron’s Alien or as Dr. Grace Augustine in James Cameron’s Avatar. She has been a possessed cellist in Ghostbusters and The Warden in Holes. My personal favorite is her turn as Gwen/Tawny in the love letter to geek culture known as GalaxyQuest. Now, after plenty of speculation, we know that she is absolutely going to join the cast of The Mandalorian & Grogu.

In an interview with Andreas Wiseman at Deadline, Weaver verifies the authenticity of a speculation that has been under scrutiny by our team since May. At present, she is in Venice for the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement award.

Inquired about her upcoming movie, she disclosed, “I’ll be featuring in ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu,’ directed by Jon Favreau. I’m wrapping up that project before jetting off to London for ‘The Tempest’ at year’s end.” She has also shared that she’s already crossed paths with Grogu, leaving fans everywhere intrigued.

I’m looking forward to it. I can’t say much about it right now but it’s fun to bounce between all these universes.

Regarding the upcoming accolade, she expressed deep emotion about its value. This particular award is one she bestowed two years ago, and she reflects by stating, “I was once told I had no talent when studying drama at Yale, which I’m thankful for as it pushed me to explore various fields.” She further commented on its significance:

“I’d like to express my heartfelt appreciation for this fantastic award at the festival. For me, it symbolizes acceptance and admiration for actors who resist being stereotyped. It’s a sign of acknowledgment for the unconventional paths I’ve taken in my career, allowing me to explore various roles.”

Given her unconventional past, fans of the Star Wars franchise eagerly anticipate her contributions to the world of The Mandalorian.
