As a long-time fan who has witnessed the evolution of the Metal Gear Solid series since its humble beginnings, I can hardly contain my excitement for the potential release of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2. The prospect of revisiting the epic conclusion of the series on modern platforms is simply too tantalizing to ignore.
This October marks the one-year anniversary of the release of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, which has sparked much discussion about a potential Vol. 2. In fact, Konami seems to have dropped hints that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots could be part of the next Master Collection.
It’s been speculated that the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 will include games such as Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (including its precursor, Ground Zeroes), and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Previous reports by IGN have supported this idea. However, a formal announcement about when we can expect this collection is still uncertain at the moment.
As a diehard fan, I must admit I’m fully in tune with the MGS4 situation. Alas, my lips are sealed as Vol. 1 houses MGS 1-3, and you might just figure out the rest! In an exclusive chat with IGN, Producer Noriaki Okamura shared that we’re still grappling with what’s best for the series’ future, so regrettably, no news is available at present. But hang tight, more updates are on their way!
2008’s Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is stuck on PS3 at the moment, but it’s intriguing to envision a future where it could be played on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. For now though, we can anticipate Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, scheduled for release later this year.
