Jinger Duggar publicly addressed the recent arrest of her brother Joe and his wife, Kendra, on her podcast, ‘Jinger & Jeremy.’ She described the situation as ‘unthinkable.’
The 32-year-old reality star shared that this week has been incredibly painful, saying she didn’t know her heart could feel such heartbreak and that she’s deeply saddened by how many people this has impacted.
Jinger, with her husband and podcast co-host Jeremy Vuolo, shared that recent events had left her feeling emotionally drained.
On March 18th, her 31-year-old brother, Joe, was arrested for allegedly sexually molesting a child under the age of 12. The arrest relates to an incident from 2020 involving a nine-year-old girl.
Joe faces charges related to inappropriate behavior with another person, according to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office in Florida.
Kendra, Joe’s wife and a 27-year-old woman, was arrested on March 20th in Tontitown, Arkansas, and faces charges of endangering a child and unlawfully restricting someone’s freedom, according to police.
Jinger shared on her podcast that it’s been a really tough week, feeling much longer than it actually was.
The woman, originally from Fayetteville, Arkansas, said her family’s current legal troubles are almost impossible to process, especially considering the revelations from a decade ago about her older brother Josh’s abuse of young girls.
Jinger described the latest series of events as ‘so hard and painful on many levels.’
Thirty-eight-year-old Vuolo described the news of the arrests as deeply upsetting, saying he and his wife are trying to process the difficult situation through reflection and prayer. He also noted that this isn’t the first time one of his wife’s brothers has faced legal issues related to interactions with minors.
Vuolo stated they are thinking of the person affected by the alleged actions that led to Joe and Kendra’s arrest.
Honestly, hearing about the victim who came forward has really stayed with me – it’s just devastating to think about the impact this has had on her life. It’s truly unimaginable what she’s gone through.
Vuolo said that the ‘ripple effect of that horrific crime’ is ‘devastating to think about.’
Jinger considered the recent reports about Joe in light of her brother Josh’s past, which included several confirmed instances of inappropriate behavior with young girls – one of which caused TLC to cancel the family’s show in 2015.
It’s impossible to truly prepare for news like this. We went through something similar with another sibling, whose difficult decisions impacted the entire family.
‘And yet the pain and hurt that’s caused to us, but then to so many others, is just so hard.’
Josh, age 38, is still in prison after being convicted in 2021 of receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material.
The Bay County Sheriff’s Office reports that Joe was involved in an incident while on vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida in 2020.
During the vacation, he asked the victim to sit beside him on the couch and covered her with a blanket, officials stated. While they were seated together, he inappropriately touched her, including her genital area.
Duggar repeatedly touched the victim’s thighs. He later apologized for his behavior, and the unwanted touching stopped after that.
