Joey Lawrence’s co-star Melina Alves has broken her silence amid rumors she had an affair with him.
On Wednesday, the actress, aged 40 and co-starring with him in Socked in For Christmas, published a detailed refutation of the affair speculations on her Instagram account.
Melina was accused of having an affair with Joey by her estranged husband Edward Rider.
In her statement, Melina expressed her regret and sorrow as she felt compelled to discuss the unfortunate private issue regarding rumors about her and Joey Lawrence’s relationship.
The actress found the claims of an affair with Joey deeply upsetting, stating emphatically that there was absolutely no romantic involvement or physical intimacy between them during the filming of their Christmas production.
She shared that they developed friendship due to their mutual background in similar life experiences.
Additionally, Melina shared a timeframe for her personal wedding, revealing that she and her former spouse Edward Rider have been apart since January 2023. Despite this separation, they continue to reside under the same roof, each occupying their individual spaces within the house.
The actress shared that she needed to get a short-term protective order against her husband, stating this was necessary for her safety during a period of weakness.
She claimed he breached the court order regarding restrictions, and subsequently went to the police station to file a complaint about it. This action, she asserted, prompted him to reportedly reach out to a news outlet.
It was claimed that Joey and Melina were involved in a romantic relationship by Edward when he submitted his divorce documents at the end of July.
According to the records, he asserts that he discovered information suggesting Joey and Melina may have been involved romantically around late March.
Joey and Melina have been charged with carrying out an alleged romantic involvement, which occurred while they were working together in California for the movie “Socked In For Christmas,” where Melina is also a screenwriter.
Rider claims the affair went on ‘at various other times and places.’
Last week, on August 13, Samantha Cope, who is no longer with Joey, initiated the process of ending their two-year marriage by filing for a divorce.

37-year-old mother of one formally initiated divorce proceedings against her husband, the Melissa & Joey actor, aged 48, on August 13. The split was due to ‘irreconcilable differences’, with the separation being declared as June 7, 2024, in court documents.
Accompanying a video collage, Samantha wrote in the caption, ‘My wonderful friend has just advised me, “Don’t fear the tears; let them fall freely.'”
She said, ‘”Each tear is like God delicately pressing out sadness and destruction from your heart, creating space for fresh, wonderful emotions to fill it up.”‘
‘She also reminded me: “the more you cry, the less you pee.” So let them flow. You got this.’
In the post, Cope showcased several videos since she was spending quality time with her one-year-old child, Dylan Rose (who she co-parents with Lawrence).
Additionally, the star revealed intimate moments, such as herself crying both outdoors and within a car with her little daughter, straight from the heart.
Then, the scene shifted to show Samantha beaming broadly while spinning gently with her child in her arms within a generously sized bedroom, her face glowing with happiness.
Cope could be seen standing next to a horse with a scenic landscape surrounding her, as well as other sweet moments shared with her little one.
As the video progresses, a voiceover can be heard commenting, ‘Check out your journey, see how much you’ve accomplished.’
‘You’ve faced your trauma, and you came out on the other side. And I’m sorry to get a little emotional. But there were some times there that I was really worried about you, miss girl. But look at you today. I am so proud of you. You’re a survivor baby.’
