Iconic movie villain from Fargo and The Big Lebowski looks unrecognizable with shaggy beard, who is he?

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe this! I just saw him – him! – the guy from Fargo and The Big Lebowski! I almost didn’t recognize him! He was out in Beverly Hills, and honestly, he looked so different. It was amazing and a little shocking to see him in person, but I knew it was him instantly. I’m still buzzing about it!

The 72-year-old actor, originally from Sweden, has collaborated with many famous stars throughout his career, including Jeff Bridges, Julianne Moore, Keanu Reeves, Johnny Depp, and Ben Affleck.

He began his acting career in the late 1970s with a role in the Swedish crime film, The Score.

The actor became more well-known after playing a criminal in a film from the 1990s, directed by the Coen brothers, Joel and Ethan.

He’s also done voice work for several popular video games, including the Call of Duty series, Destiny, Until Dawn, and Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction.

Can you guess who it is?

Peter Stormare is an actor famous for his role as Gaear Grimsrud in the 1996 film Fargo, which also starred Frances McDormand, Steve Buscemi, and William H. Macy.

He also played the part of Uli Kunkel, the leader of a group of German nihilists, in the movie The Big Lebowski.

I spotted him yesterday while I was at Bristol Farms in Beverly Hills! It’s not often you see him out and about, so I was really excited to see him grabbing lunch. It was a quick trip, but definitely a highlight of my day!

He was wearing a black, short-sleeved shirt, black Adidas track pants, and a white cap.

He was wearing a leg brace as he walked through the busy parking lot on his casual outing.

Peter Stormare is hosting a 30th-anniversary screening of the classic film Fargo at the Fargo Theatre on April 14th.

When the movie came out in theaters in March 1996, it received widespread praise and won many awards.

Fargo received seven nominations for Academy Awards and won two: Best Actress, awarded to Frances McDormand, and Best Original Screenplay, which went to Joel and Ethan Coen.

Stormare shared that his character in the film was inspired by two people the Coen brothers had known personally.

‘My character was built on two guys from their younger days,’ the star shared, per the HuffPost.

When creating this character, we blended names – using the first person’s given name with the second person’s family name. And honestly, this guy was always smoking. It was a defining trait – he barely spoke, and I heard stories he could even doze off with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. It was a very specific detail we wanted to get right.

He explained that he really tried to meet everyone’s expectations, but he got quite sick during filming – particularly during the well-known bar scene at the start. He admitted he actually threw up several times!

After gaining recognition for his work in Fargo, Peter Stormare went on to appear in several popular films, including The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), Armageddon (1998), The Big Lebowski (1998), Chocolat (2000), and Bad Boys II (2003).

In 2005, the actor played Lucifer in the movie Constantine, alongside Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz.

A follow-up movie is being developed, but actor Michael Stuhlbarg recently shared in an interview with Collider that Keanu Reeves wasn’t happy with the proposed scripts.

He explained that there’s a lot of revision happening, because Keanu Reeves—whom he knows well—isn’t satisfied with the scripts typically produced by the studios.

Stormare later added that Reeves ‘wants to do a sequel that is very close to the first one.

Keanu Reeves explained that after making the John Wick movies, he wanted this film to be more focused on spirituality, exploring themes of demons and everyday people, and he aimed to maintain that balance throughout the project.

The 2005 film gradually gained a devoted following after earning about $230 million worldwide, despite costing between $70 and $100 million to make.

‘You don’t have to add a lot of action and shootouts,’ Stormare continued. ‘You have other movies.

Please, let’s not make this a huge, over-the-top action movie like those big Marvel films. Let’s avoid constant aerial stunts and excessive gunfire. Keep it grounded and realistic.

Peter Stormare is expected to return as Lucifer in the upcoming sequel, according to his IMDB page, but the full cast hasn’t been officially announced yet.

Since then, Stormare has appeared in films like 22 Jump Street (2014), John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017), and the upcoming Until Dawn (2025).

The Swedish actor also spent time working on TV shows instead of just movies.

He’s also famous for his role as John Abruzzi in the Fox series Prison Break, which aired from 2005 to 2007.

In addition to his film work, Stormare appeared in several television series, including NCIS: Los Angeles, Graceland, 1923, Tracker, and General Hospital.
