Brooke Shields reveals daughter Grier wore her first wedding gown as a graduation dress… as she officially becomes an empty nester: ‘I’m going to really miss them’

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but share an intriguing piece of news: Brooke Shields recently disclosed that her daughter, Grier Hammond Henchy, chose to wear her wedding dress for her graduation from the Convent of the Sacred Heart situated in Manhattan’s Upper East Side on June 11. For Brooke, this was a ‘full circle moment.’
59-year-old ex-child star found inspiration for her wedding attire in the fairies from Fantasia. In 1997, she chose a corseted ivory gown with crinoline and an 16ft long antique lace veil designed by Heidi Weisel to wear at her marriage to ex-husband Andre Agassi.
Brooke said to People that although it was originally very white, after so many years it developed a slight yellow tinge, which surprisingly turned out to be quite charming on the 27-year-old item.
[Grier] removed the straps and flattened the puffy part. Then, we reinforced it to make it extremely snug.
In 1999, Shields ended her marriage with the 54-year-old tennis star, reportedly because of his struggle with crystal meth. However, she continues to view him as a decent person.
The Mother of the Bride, who is also a producer and star, stated that some individuals may seek to criticize past connections or failed situations. However, she has always disagreed with this perspective. Instead, she feels they should be respected and valued.
‘Initially, it served its purpose well, though it wasn’t intended for a lifelong bond. I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way, but I prefer not to harbor resentment about the past. [Grier] didn’t react negatively towards it, which was a significant turn of events for me. He’s a great person, so his acceptance felt like closing a full circle. It’s truly an honor when they choose to wear my designs because usually, I don’t come across as cool in their eyes. It feels good.’
Nevertheless, it appeared as though Brooke held a touch of disapproval when her 21-year-old daughter Rowan Francis Henchy requested to wear the custom red strapless dress from Australian designer Richard Tyler – a gown she had worn to the 1998 Golden Globe Awards for her school prom.
‘I got it dry cleaned because you destroyed it,’ Shields scoffed.
Rowan replied: ‘I did not destroy it.’
On Monday, the local New York resident shared a video of herself weeping at her $4.3M Hamptons residence, marking the occasion of becoming an empty nester after sending Grier off to Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC, where Rowan is presently a senior and a member of the Chi Omega sorority.
Brooke shared on Instagram that they appear to be together, but she emphasized that things aren’t simple for the mothers involved.
It’s quite strange to find her absent. To begin with, things were tough, and as we continued, she began sobbing, which led me to cry too. By the end of our journey, I had shed a considerable amount of tears. So, moving on, I guess I can now be considered an empty nester. Incredible.
On Wednesday, Grier shared with People that “I have the same concern for myself as I do for her,” but also expressed that “We seem to have grown quite close. There’s still a boundary, but there’s definitely a stronger bond between us now.”
Rowan continues to share all aspects of her life with Shields, and off-the-record, she expressed her hope that the relationship between him and his father might be rekindled.
In 1999, the two-time Golden Globe nominee first crossed paths with her subsequent spouse, retired film producer Chris Henchy, at the Warner Bros studio. They recently commemorated their 23rd wedding anniversary on April 4th.
As for Brooke, it’s both sad and exciting because she’s missing her old companions deeply, yet embracing a lively new puppy named Tuzi: “It’s a mix of feelings, but I’ve got Tuzi now. She’s my new source of delight, and she’s staying with Mommy!”
In simpler terms, the person referred to as “Shields,” who TIME magazine labeled as the embodiment of the 1980s, disclosed that Grier had tried on one of the three remaining pairs of the iconic 1981 Calvin Klein jeans and reenacted her signature pose for a personal family photograph.
One set of jeans belonging to the celebrity known for “Pretty Baby” has been given to The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, while the other will be up for auction at Studio Auctions in October, with a minimum starting bid of $20,000.
In the month of May, Brooke assumed the role of president for Actors Equity, a union representing 51,000 theatrical actors and managers within its ranks. More recently, she has launched a new hair care business specifically catering to women aged forty and above, called Commence.
‘Having this happen while they’re absent is like an elixir,’ Shields explained.
‘Then again, maybe I took on all this stuff subliminally to keep myself busy.’
A graduate from Princeton University is set to lend her voice to a character named Willow, a horse, in Kevin Donovan and Gottfried Roodt’s animated film “Gracie and Pedro: Pets to the Rescue”. This movie will make its limited debut in US cinemas on October 18. Joining her in the star-studded cast are Susan Sarandon, Alicia Silverstone, Bill Nighy, and Danny Trejo.
