Nancy Dell'Olio breaks down in tears as she admits she forgave 'love of her life' Sven-Göran Eriksson for his affairs with Ulrika Jonsson and Faria Alam after he branded them 'stupid mistakes'

As I reflect upon the life of Sven-Goran Eriksson, it is impossible not to be moved by the rich tapestry of his footballing journey. From managing some of Europe’s most prestigious clubs to leading England’s ‘golden generation’ at major tournaments, his career was a testament to his passion and skill for the beautiful game.

On Wednesday, Nancy Dell’Olio expressed her feelings openly and confessed that she had granted forgiveness to Sven Goran Eriksson, whom she referred to as the “great love” in her life, for his infidelities.

On Wednesday, the attorney, aged 63, made an appearance on Good Morning Britain. During the show, she discussed how she managed to overcome her husband’s indiscretions with Ulrika Jonsson and Faria Alam, which he described as “foolish errors.”

On Monday morning, the ex-manager of England sadly passed away at the age of 76 after a long struggle with pancreatic cancer.

1998 saw Sven and Nancy crossing paths for the first time. At that time, Sven held a managerial position at the Rome-based club, Lazio, marking the start of their romantic relationship. Interestingly enough, this rendezvous took place three years prior to his appointment as the England manager.

In my journey as a lifestyle guide, I found myself following Sven to the bustling city of London late last year when he landed his dream job. However, our shared excitement for this new chapter didn’t last long, as it soon became apparent that he had started an affair with a popular Swedish television presenter, Ulrika, at the beginning of 2002.

In 2004, despite standing by him, Nancy found out that Sven was involved in an affair with Faria, who happened to be the Football Association’s secretary at the time.

But she said on GMB in her first interview since his death: ‘I made an important choice. I didn’t want to regret the decision I made (to leave her husband).

He openly acknowledged his own lack of intelligence and quickly confided in me that those fleeting moments held no significance for him.

After discovering that she had referred to her ex as her “husband” in an emotional post following his passing, she quickly corrected the tribute she published earlier this week.

Previously, this duo shared a decade-long bond that was not officially recognized as marriage by others. However, in a touching tribute to their past, Nancy addressed him as her spouse, hinting at a commitment they may have made privately.

Nancy recently posted numerous unrevealed snapshots of herself with Sven on Instagram. In the caption, she referred to him as her former spouse and reminisced about the highs and lows of their union. However, she emphasized that ‘the essence of love endures eternally’.

Instead, she later altered her statement and referred to Sven as her former partner in the revised post.

The stylish Italian woman, once married to Giancarlo Massa but later associated with the coach, frequently accompanied him and was often seen with him in various competitions.

One affectionate photo showed her seated on Sven’s lap, giggling, with him embracing her waist, and another depicted them both deeply in love, staring lovingly into each other’s eyes.

With great sadness, I’d like to inform you about the demise of my former spouse, Sven. Despite the challenges in our past, I prefer to recall the pleasant memories we created together and the instances that added happiness to our lives.

I’ll forever keep those treasured moments close to heart, and I offer my heartfelt sympathies to his family, including dear Lina and Johan.

‘When you love someone, that love never truly fades. Rest in peace, Sven. You will be missed.’

She eventually reworded the opening sentence as, ‘I’m saddened to announce that my former partner, Sven, has passed away.’

Multiple people among Nancy’s supporters expressed their sympathies in the comment section, with WAG Rebekah Vardy contributing by posting red heart emojis.

Back in 1998, I crossed paths with a remarkable woman named Nancy while I was managing the esteemed Rome club, Lazio. Our romantic journey commenced three years prior to my appointment as the England team’s manager.

After Sven landed the highest position, they relocated to London together, yet their union didn’t last long; by early 2002, he had initiated an affair with Swedish TV host Ulrika Jonsson.

2004 was a heartbreaking year for me, as the man I’d been devotedly following, Sven, found himself entangled in another affair. This time, it was with none other than the Football Association secretary, Faria Alam.

The story of the second affair was major news because Faria had also had an affair with the then FA CEO, Mark Palios.

In spite of the media uproar, Nancy opted to remain with Sven. When he guided England to win the World Cup in Germany during 2006, stylish and vivacious Nancy, adorned in designer clothing, organized parties for the WAGs at their base in Baden Baden.

However, the couple eventually went their separate ways in August 2007 after a decade together.

In her book “My Beautiful Game”, Nancy expresses her pride by saying, ‘I cherish discussing the extraordinary romance I shared with Sven, as it ranks among the top two most significant romances in my life.’

On an Amazon Prime docuseries chronicling his life, Sven openly discussed his romantic entanglements. However, he emphatically stated that “sex is a positive aspect of life for everyone,” stressing that he was unmarried and had not caused heartbreak to anyone.

Regarding the topic of when my relationship with Ulrika started, he stated: “Sex is something pleasurable that many of us enjoy. At that time, she wasn’t wed and neither was I.”

‘Probably I was stupid but I think I didn’t do anything criminal. I didn’t really disturb anyone.’

He explained how Nancy had wanted to leave him, but changed her mind, saying: ‘She loved it. The tension. She was a lady from the upper classes in Rome. She liked to go out with important people.

Initially, I didn’t respond much. However, one doesn’t change people significantly as they grow older. My home wasn’t always a peaceful place.

In addition to being featured in the documentary, Nancy openly declared her affection for Sven by stating: “From the very beginning, powerful individuals possess an undeniable allure. It was love at first sight for me.”

‘It wasn’t something that I was looking for. I was married and I left my husband to start my journey with Sven.

Since our very first date, Sven and I have been an item. In the realm of English football, I was the undisputed first lady, and no other could ever fill that role again.

In January, Sven disclosed that he was given around a year under the most optimistic scenario after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Following his declaration, Nancy expressed that the news was extremely disheartening, mentioning that she was aware he was unwell but hadn’t realized the full severity of his health situation.

In my heart, I never imagined 2024 would start on such a disheartening note. I was aware of Sven’s illness, but the pain intensifies upon hearing the latest developments.

Currently, I’m experiencing immense sadness. In September, my dear mother passed away, and the pain of her absence is something I’ve found difficult to move past. It feels as though a deep wound within me has not only failed to heal but continues to grow larger with each passing day.

Sven’s revelation was heart-wrenching. Although I suspected he wasn’t feeling great, his words hit hard. Sometimes life is unforgiving.

Nancy additionally disclosed that she and Sven were planning on getting married, but mentioned that circumstances intervened instead.

When asked about reports they had been due to tie the knot she said: ‘Yes but it never happened.

Life is full of surprises, unexpected transformations take place, tough times show up, and numerous challenges lie ahead.

On Loose Women, the Italian woman expressed her deep sorrow upon hearing about Sven’s diagnosis, revealing that she was unaware he had been given a prognosis of ‘at most a year to live.’

She confessed she was feeling ‘very emotional’ after she learned he had cancer.

Nancy informed the group, “A year ago, I learned about [a situation]. I realized it was significant. I was overjoyed when he chose to make it public because he garnered so much support, and I believe he made the correct choice.”

Initially, I was taken aback when I discovered he was critically ill, and later found out that his condition meant he had just a year left. This information came from news sources, as it hadn’t been shared with me before. The idea of someone having only a year to live is incredibly hard for me to process. It feels like such a short time, even though it’s not 90 minutes yet. I do hold onto the belief that miracles can happen.

On the show, where Nancy made quite an impression with her well-coiffed curls and vibrant red jacket, she mentioned that she learned about Sven’s diagnosis while waiting at a New York airport.

1. Among the few select individuals privy to this information, I was one of them. He contacted me from Italy, and I was the one who put my signature on the contract. I plan to return tomorrow.

In 2001, Sven was appointed as the first non-British coach for the England national team. He managed a total of 67 games until his tenure ended in 2006. Under his leadership, the gifted team advanced to the quarterfinals of both the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, as well as reaching the stage of the 2004 European Championships.

Eriksson coached a particularly talented group of English players, which included the likes of David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney, and Steven Gerrard – often referred to as England’s golden era in football.

In addition, he led teams from Sweden, Portugal, and Italy during that period, capturing significant titles in the 1980s and 1990s. Later, he was appointed to manage the English team.

On Monday, Bo Gustavsson, a representative based in Sweden who collaborated with Eriksson, made a statement saying: ‘Regrettably, Sven-Goran Eriksson has departed from this world.’

‘After a long illness, SGE died during the morning at home surrounded by family.

Here are the key individuals attending the event: Daughter Lina, Son Johan (accompanied by his wife Amana and granddaughter Sky), Father Sven, Girlfriend Yanisette (and her son Alcides), Brother Lars-Erik (with his wife Jumnong).

The family kindly requests that they be allowed privacy during this time of mourning, so as not to receive any contact. Any condolences or well wishes may be shared via the website: www.svengoraneriksson.com.

Following his demise, it was the Prince of Wales who took the forefront in paying tributes, expressing through a tweet: ‘I’m saddened to learn about the passing of Sven-Göran Eriksson. Our encounters, while he managed England, left me consistently impressed by his captivating charm and fervor for the sport.’

‘My thoughts are with his family and friends. A true gentleman of the game. W.’

In the meantime, David Beckham posted an emotional tribute to Sven on Instagram, which seems to depict their last encounter.

In his recent social media update, Beck shared a wordless video montage showing him and the deceased Swede, aged 76, strolling, conversing, and chuckling, which seems to have been taken at Eriksson’s residence in Sunne on an undisclosed day.

Beckham wrote: ‘We laughed, we cried & we knew we were saying goodbye.

Sven, I appreciate you for consistently remaining the person you are – passionate, caring, composed, and truly chivalrous.

1. “I’ll always cherish the fact that you chose me as your captain, but I’ll also keep the final moments we shared with your family close to my heart.”

‘Thank you Sven and in your last words to me: ‘It will be ok’.’
