As I delve into the inspiring tale of Spencer Matthews, I am left utterly awestruck by his indomitable spirit and relentless determination. The man has not only shattered the world record for consecutive marathons on sand but also proved that he is a force to be reckoned with in the realm of endurance athletics.

Spencer Matthews embarked on a challenging, lengthy training program that ultimately led him to earn a prestigious Guinness World Record. He achieved this by successfully running 30 marathons across the desert within 30 uninterrupted days.

Previously known for his role on Made in Chelsea, the 36-year-old was warmly welcomed at the Jordanian finish line on Tuesday, following an astonishing accomplishment: he ran a distance equivalent to the entire length of the UK over sand under intense heat conditions.

Before embarking on an impressive task, Spencer subjected his body to intense workouts and tested its limits in preparation for the tremendous undertaking.

Apart from logging an amazing 30 kilometers daily, this television personality additionally underwent intense workouts inside a heated chamber, reaching temperatures as high as 50 degrees Celsius, in order to adapt himself to the challenging conditions of a marathon.

At London South Bank University, the heat chamber he explored simulated authentic desert environment conditions, where Spencer underwent his training under high temperatures and a humidity level of 20%.

The father-of-three documented his time in the chamber on Instagram, with the star noting he had 10 sessions at an hour each.

At the given moment, an expert commented on the method: “One advantage of heat acclimatization is having a cooler initial body temperature, implying a larger capacity to store heat before your internal temperature rises significantly.”

Yet, Spencer found his initial endeavor exceptionally challenging, as he shared in an interview that he experienced a deep sense of embarrassment and felt quite dizzy afterward.

In an interview with T3.com prior to the event in July, he admitted that his first attempt at it was almost embarrassing. He ran extremely slowly for twenty minutes, lost track of time, and felt dizzy. To keep going, he nibbled on nuts and dates, but after forty minutes, he had to leave due to severe discomfort.

During my second hour, I returned and found it suitable. Each time I engage in this activity, I manage to shed approximately 4.8 kilograms. Now, I’ve reached a point where I can maintain a steady pace for about two hours without much strain.

During his training, the athlete mentioned an additional hurdle he encountered when he tore his IT band right at the start of his expedition.

He said: ‘That really threw a spanner in the works and I had to take six weeks off. Thankfully, I’ve come out fine and I’m not injured at all, but this is the kind of thing that can really scramble your mind. If you allow it to get in your head negatively then you’ve already lost the battle before you’ve even got there.’

Spencer isn’t new to tackling tough obstacles, as he has successfully finished three ultra-marathons: the Marathon de Sables, known as the hardest race globally, the Jungle Ultra, and the Ice Ultra. These were followed by his desert marathons.

In preparation for his record attempt, he made journeys to Jordan to acclimate himself to the landscape and climate.

In June, he was invited to train with some of Kenya’s Olympic team at the Nyayo National Stadium, where he ran a personal best.

In July, he ran in a preliminary marathon for Global’s Make Some Noise, where he got to know the remarkable charities he would be assisting.

Apart from rigorously exercising his body, Spencer also maintained a well-planned diet and made sure to eat sufficient food on his training days, given that he typically burned approximately 8,000 calories in those sessions.

The hunk ate a balanced diet consisting of vegetables, chicken, fruits, yogurts and rice, as well as supplement Heights.

I couldn’t contain my excitement as I recounted Spencer’s incredible feat – breaking the world record for running the most consecutive marathons on sand! His last marathon, clocked at an impressive 4 hours and 17 minutes, was the cherry on top of this remarkable achievement.

The speaker completed a 30-day series of desert marathons, setting a new Guinness World Record, and posted about it from Jordan on Tuesday, marking his accomplishment with great excitement.

He was joined on the finish line by his wife Vogue Williams and their three children; Theodore, five, Gigi, three, and Otto, two, who flew out to the Jordanian desert to see him finish.

He penned on Instagram: ‘I DID IT!!! I CAN HARDLY BELIEVE IT!! 30 DESERT MARATHONS IN 30 CONSECUTIVE DAYS… ALL ON SAND. ✅

Currently, I hold the title from Guinness World Records as an endurance runner, being the first and only individual who managed to run this numerous consecutive marathons under such challenging weather conditions daily. That’s approximately 42.2 kilometers or 26.2 miles each time.

‘That’s 1,274.02km of some of the world’s toughest terrain with no comfort in which to recover.

I undertook this action to boost recognition and resources for the remarkable efforts of @globals_make_some_noise, who aid small charities throughout the UK, ensuring nobody has to face life’s hardest struggles without support.
