The new sci-fi movie, based on Andy Weir’s book, tells the story of astronaut Ryland Grace (played by Ryan Gosling). He wakes up with no memory and discovers he’s on a critical, one-way trip to save the Sun from a strange microbe. During his journey, he forms an unlikely friendship with an alien named Rocky, and together they work to save both their worlds.
As a huge animation fan, I’ve been hearing amazing things about How to Train Your Dragon – everyone loves how true it is to the source material and those incredible flying scenes! It’s no surprise DreamWorks was already planning a sequel – reportedly based on How to Train Your Dragon 2 – even before the first movie came out. But it sounds like How to Train Your Dragon might not be the only DreamWorks animated film getting a live-action makeover. With Disney seemingly running out of classics to remake, DreamWorks has a ton of options. And if they do decide to make more live-action versions after How to Train Your Dragon, there’s one film they absolutely need to tackle first.
I’m absolutely blown away by Project Hail Mary! As of today, it’s sitting at a phenomenal 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 57 reviews. Everyone’s saying it’s the best sci-fi film of the year so far, and one critic brilliantly described it as Cast Away meets Interstellar – which is a perfect way to put it, honestly.
Alvarez, with his black leather jacket and sunglasses, brings to mind Lou Reed, but with a softer edge. At times, he also resembles Marc Bolan from the early 1970s, though without the flamboyant style. (I just coined the term ‘glamificial’ to describe it, and I think it fits.)
