As a seasoned observer of celebrity dynamics and a firm believer in the importance of nurturing individuality, I find myself intrigued by the ongoing debate surrounding Alec Baldwin and Hilaria‘s decision to allow their eldest daughter Carmen to wear makeup.

The pair, Alec and Hilaria Baldwin, faced criticism due to allowing their 11-year-old daughter Carmen to apply makeup.

Following the shared selfie by the father (age 66) and mother (age 40), celebrating their oldest child’s birthday, their parenting methods faced criticism from many.

Many Instagram users expressed concern over the use of a beauty filter and heavy makeup on Carmen, as seen in her various posts, by filling up the comments section with questions about the reason behind it, stating that she seems to be only 11 years old.

Critics accused them of allowing their prepubescent daughter to overuse make-up, which they deemed unsuitable for her tender age.

The couple have faced harsh criticism in the past for letting their daughter wear makeup since she turned 10.

During this occasion, the pair faced similar criticism from numerous followers, who voiced their opinions in the comment section. One Instagram user commented, “They’re already fully made up at 11 o’clock,” followed by, “I wish them good luck.”

In the photo that seemed to be taken during Carmen’s birthday celebration, Hilaria was positioned with her husband on one side and her daughter on the other.

On your 11th birthday, dear Carmen Gabriela, we feel incredibly fortunate to be your parents. You bring joy into our lives with your presence, filling our days with laughter, and simply by being yourself. Hilaria expressed this delightfully in her post.

Alec reposted the photo and wrote: ’11!!! Love you, Carmencita…’

In the image, Hilaria exuded a luminous glow while draped in a chic black turtleneck top, with one arm affectionately around her oldest child.

For over twelve years, his partner wore a blue dress shirt, and he neatly styled his hair, which was a mix of salt and pepper, away from his face.

11-year-old Carmen had a charming appearance, sporting her dark brown hair in its natural state and what seemed like mascara on her eyelashes.

One comment stated that Carmen is ‘seriously way too young to be wearing makeup.’

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I find myself resonating with a recent comment left on Instagram by a user named Carmen. In a heartfelt manner, Carmen expressed that Carmen is adorable and suggested that Alec and Hilaria allow her to savor the joys of being a young girl for just a bit longer.

Another social media user agreed that it is ‘strange’ that they allowed Carmen to put on ‘the amount of makeup that a 15-year-old might.’

One person was visibly frustrated that they edited the photo and said it was ‘warped’ that they ‘enhanced’ Carmen’s face in the photo.

“Let’s avoid objectifying her in a sexual way. It could cause her harm throughout her life.”

One user said she looked like she was nearly double her age while another wrote that their daughter is ‘looking too old for 11.’

One Instagram user penned: ’11 and makeup….really?’ Another person commented that they were treating the preteen like a teenager.

Though swarms of critics flooded the comment sections, I was among those who defended them ardently.

One Instagram user wrote, ‘What makes everyone so eager to scrutinize her parenting?’ Another comment suggested, ‘Stay out of her business for a happier life.’ The person added, ‘She’s lovely, after all!’

A different user commented that the critics were ‘harsh’ and suggested that perhaps she was merely trying to emulate her mother’s appearance for her birthday.

In June, a picture shared by Alec featuring Carmen with mascara and shiny lipstick for Father’s Day received criticism.

‘Beautiful family. My 8 yr old granddaughter loves playing with makeup and we let her! What’s the big deal! So shut your negative mouths and move on,’ one said.

On another occasion as well, Alec and Hilaria have faced criticism because of their eldest daughter using makeup.

Back in February, Hilaria found herself under criticism when she posted a picture of Carmen with full face makeup on her personal Instagram account, a situation commonly known as “mom shaming”.

She wrote as the caption: ‘Evening out with my first child, who did our makeup. Time really flies, and it’s such a delight to find inspiration in their growth.’

The media personality summed it up by saying, “Carmen, you’re remarkably unique, just like your other family members…each one of you is extraordinary in your own way.”

As a lifestyle expert, I often find myself questioning the choices made by some celebrities regarding their children’s appearances. For instance, I ponder why they frequently style their kids to appear more mature, with heavy makeup being a common practice. To me, it seems inappropriate for a child, who should be allowed to embrace their youth and innocence. So, when you see a young celebrity adorned in adult-like makeup, remember, it’s a child. Let them be!

Additionally, others stood up for Hilaria, with one writing, “My daughter and I would often do each other’s makeup, which was a wonderful way to connect, particularly for the eldest in large families. Let’s show kindness.”

The Baldwin clan is currently producing a new reality show focusing on their large family of seven children: Carmen (11 years old), Rafael (nine years old), Leonardo (seven years old), Romeo (six years old), Eduardo or ‘Edu’ (three years old), Maria (also three years old), and the youngest, Ilaria (one year old).

In addition to playing the lead role in Glengarry Glen Ross, he is also a father to Ireland Baldwin, aged 27, who was born from his marriage to former actress Kim Basinger.

Over the past few weeks, the family has been spotted shooting footage for TLC, both within and near The Hamptons region of New York.

According to images from DailyMail.com, the Baldwin children were spotted preparing meals on an open-air grill, with Alec instructing one of them on proper vegetable-chopping techniques for safety purposes.

Their new reality series is slated to air on the TLC network sometime in 2025.
