Olympic swimmer Ariarne Titmus reveals why she ditched the Logies despite being invited to present an award: 'Not many girls would have done that'

As an ardent fan, I can’t help but be captivated by Ariarne Titmus’s remarkable journey and down-to-earth persona. Her willingness to prioritize her passions over glamorous invitations is truly inspiring. It’s refreshing to see a champion athlete who values the simple joy of watching a good game of footy over the limelight.

She amazed the world with her achievements in the pool during the Paris Games.

But Ariarne Titmus has revealed that she is willing to step out of the limelight.

Last week, I found myself in an unexpected predicament when I turned down an invitation to grace the stage at the Logies in Sydney. This decision, I must admit, came as a surprise even to me.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I found myself nestled amidst the throng at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, taking in the electrifying atmosphere as Hawthorn outplayed Carlton in an exhilarating AFL match.

She shared with the Herald Sun on Saturday that she was asked to present an award at the [Logies], something that would’ve been exciting, but she opted to attend a football match instead.

Not many girls would have done that‘ the athlete added.

In another conversation, that legendary swimmer mentioned with a gleam in her eyes that she’s eagerly anticipating a brief respite from the rigorous grind of her swimming regimen. She can hardly wait to indulge herself!

‘I am going to be a yes girl,’ she explained.

During training, you often need to decline invitations, leave events early, or forego enjoyment. However, during this break, I am eagerly looking forward to doing everything I desire, visiting new places, accepting invitations, seizing opportunities – and that’s what truly excites me!

The Golden Girl was on top of the world as she arrived home an Olympic hero on last week.

She was thrilled beyond belief when she unexpectedly ran into an old friend during a live broadcast, creating yet another cause for her joy.

In touching moments, Ariarne, the swimmer who clinched gold in the 400m freestyle and 4x200m freestyle relay at the Paris pool, found herself conversing with Abbey Badcock following their victories.

Since Titmus spent her childhood in Tasmania, the two became close friends, and later, when she moved to Queensland at age 16 in 2015 to advance her swimming career, they continued their friendship.

During a live chat on Channel Nine’s The Today Show at Sydney Airport, Titmus expressed great joy upon meeting Badcock in person.

“Titmus mentioned that she considers her as a dear, intimate friend,” was the alternative phrasing I provided for the sentence you shared. This version aims to maintain the original sentiment while using easier-to-read language.

‘I don’t get to see her often because of my training, but oh my God, this is so cool.

Abbey, who once swam competitively with Ariarne during their youth, shared her amazement with viewers about watching her longtime friend participate in the Olympics on television.

Indeed, I can attest that standing atop the podium in Paris and receiving the golden medal brought an indescribable sense of euphoria. Yet, amidst this joy, there was also a profound relief that washed over me, knowing all my hard work had paid off.

‘It [winning] was a monkey off my back, I was racing for [all of] Australia,’ she said.

Apart from spending time with loved ones, she has decided that reconnecting with family and friends is crucial in the upcoming weeks. However, football takes precedence for her since she’s back in her homeland.

She mentioned that due to her past training, she often says ‘no’, but now she’s eager to transform into a person who always responds with ‘yes’ and doesn’t have to be the one to depart first or retire early because of early mornings.

I’m eagerly anticipating a break that starts this Sunday, as I plan to catch the Hawthorn Hawks playing against Richmond in Melbourne.

‘I think we will go and play the [Brisbane] Lions in the grand final.’
