NASCAR: Full Daytona starting lineup if qualifying gets canceled
As a die-hard NASCAR fan who has spent countless hours tracking rain showers in Florida and adjusting my schedule to catch every race, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension about the potential cancellation of qualifying for the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway. The unpredictable weather in the Sunshine State always adds an extra layer of suspense to the events, making it even more thrilling to watch.
On a typical Daytona Beach day, you’d find me in sync with the rain. So, it doesn’t come as a surprise when Friday night showers threaten the single-car qualifying session that sets the starting grid for the NASCAR Cup Series race on Saturday at the legendary Daytona International Speedway.
As reported by The Weather Channel, it’s likely that Daytona Beach, Florida will experience showers only about 24% of the time this coming Friday. This rate is quite typical for this season. However, it’s essential to note that Florida is prone to sudden, unforeseen showers.
6:00 PM Eastern Time is when the qualifying race on the 4-cornered, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) banked racetrack will begin.
In case the qualifying session gets cancelled, the starting grid for Saturday night’s 160-lap Coke Zero Sugar 400 will be determined by a four-factor system that NASCAR introduced in 2020. This same system was used to establish the starting grid for the race at Michigan International Speedway last week.
You can find a detailed explanation of the formula right over here. It factors in the car owner’s position in the overall standings (accounting for 35%), the driver’s performance in the latest race (taking up 25%), the car owner’s result from the same race (also 25%), and the driver’s fastest lap rank in that race (contributing 15%).
If qualifying is canceled, here is what the starting lineup will look like.

1st Place: Tyler Reddick (No. 45) of the team 23XI Racing with a Toyota
