Hit Network radio faces huge program shake-up amid station’s ongoing ratings battle with KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O show
As a seasoned radio listener and industry insider with over three decades of tuning in to breakfast shows, I must say this latest shakeup at Hit Network is reminiscent of a game of musical chairs – albeit a high-stakes one. The rivalry between KIIS FM and Hit Network has reached new heights, with both sides shuffling their talent around like chess pieces on a grand board.
The Hit Network has unveiled significant changes within its roster, as they engage in a fierce morning rating contest with KIIS FM.
104.1 2DayFM announced that the Mike E & Emma show, currently airing in their Sydney morning time slot, will be relocated due to stiff competition from the Kyle and Jackie O show on KISS FM.
Starting from August 26th, the program, co-hosted by Mike Etheridge and Emma Chow, will be moving to a temporary new location. During the workweek (Monday through Thursday), it will air during the evening primetime slot nationally. On weekends, it will take over the national Breakfast timeslot.
Mike E and Emma expressed: “Looking forward to avoiding that 4 am alarm! We can’t wait to infuse some fun from Mike E & Emma into weekday Nights, and kickstart Australia on weekends with our Breakfast show!”

As a devoted fan, I can attest to the fact that the renowned radio duo has held a cherished place in the hearts of Sydneysiders for more than a decade. It is now high time for this beloved pair to expand their reach and conquer the airwaves nationally.
She expressed her enthusiasm that the remainder of the nation can now develop a fondness for them.
Meanwhile, Jimmy Smith and Nath Roye have been shifted to the 104.1 2DayFM Breakfast time slot as well. Now, they are responsible for waking up Sydney in the morning.
Mike E and Emma are broadcast on The National Hit Network every weekday evening from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and every Saturday and Sunday morning from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
Jimmy & Nath for Breakfast can be heard from 6am to 9am, Monday to Friday, on 104.1 2DayFM.
On The Hit Network, you can find the highly successful drive-time program hosted by Carrie Bickmore and Tommy Little, as well as Fifi, Fev, and Nick’s competing show featuring Kyle and Jackie O.
Back in April, I couldn’t help but get excited when my beloved radio rival, KIIS, decided to extend their popular Kyle and Jackie O breakfast show to the vibrant Melbourne market. Hosted by the dynamic duo, Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, this expansion was music to my ears!
In contrast, the highly regarded Sydney-based radio rating giants were taken aback when they suffered a defeat at the hands of their Melbourne counterparts, The Hit Network’s Fifi, Fev, and Nick, during the latest radio audience survey.
In the competition, Kyle and Jackie O’s show ranked sixth, holding a 5.9% audience share, surpassed by the shows hosted by Marty Sheargold on SmoothFM and Triple M.
In the meantime, Fifi, Fev, and Nick found themselves comfortably in third position following a slight dip in their market share to 9.5% from its previous 10%.
1. The three-person radio team lost their second position to the Nova FM pair, Lauren Phillips and Jason “Jase” Hawkins, who saw a significant increase in ratings following KIIS FM’s decision to dismiss them.
Gold FM’s breakfast show, hosted by Christian O’Connell, continues to be the most popular morning program in Melbourne, boasting a 10.8% audience share.
3AW Mornings with Ross Stevenson and Russell Howcroft holds the top spot as the most listened-to breakfast program in Melbourne, boasting a 18.8% audience share.
Even though they’ve been broadcasting for 25 years as a duo, The Kyle & Jackie O Show remains fresh and new to Melbourne audiences, and we’re optimistic about the promising initial outcomes.
Specifically, the rise in the total number of listeners over time (cume) indicates that the show is gaining new audiences. Once these new listeners become loyal, we can expect the share or percentage of the overall audience to grow as well.
It’s clear that additional surveys are necessary to fully make an impact on the Melbourne audience, but we’re eager to expand upon our current base and believe that Kyle & Jackie O will maintain their popularity among Melbourne listeners, much like they have in Sydney.
