Watch the trailer for The War of the Rohirrim, the new animated Lord of the Rings movie
As a die-hard Lord of the Rings fan with over two decades of fandom under my belt, I’m beyond excited about the upcoming events in Middle-earth! The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is just around the corner, and I can hardly contain my enthusiasm. But wait, there’s more! Warner Bros. Discovery is throwing their hat into the ring with The War of the Rohirrim, a prequel movie set 200 years before Frodo’s iconic journey.
In the upcoming week, the second season of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” a prequel series taking place thousands of years prior to the familiar story we’ve been acquainted with, will debut on Amazon Prime Video. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Discovery is preparing another prequel titled “The War of the Rohirrim,” a film that unfolds approximately 200 years before Frodo embarked on his journey to Mount Doom.
As a devoted admirer, I find myself eagerly anticipating this upcoming film where I’ll be joining Rohan in the era of King Helm Hammerhand, masterfully voiced by none other than Brian Cox from ‘Succession’. The cunning and ambitious Wulf (Luke Pasqualino), leader of the Dunlendings, seeks to forge an alliance with Rohan, but his true intention seems to be ladder-climbing and amassing power. Tensions escalate, leading to a war that forces Helm Hammerhand and his daughter Hèra (Gaia Wise) to rally their forces in the struggle for victory.
WBD just released a trailer. Watch below!
The War of the Rohirrim is narrated by Miranda Otto, who portrayed Éowyn, the Rohan shieldmaiden in Peter Jackson’s beloved Lord of the Rings films. If you enjoyed those movies, you’re going to love this one! Don’t miss it!
It’s quite possible that I will; it appears to be well-designed, and director Kenji Kamiyama is highly praised. He began his journey as a background artist on renowned anime films such as “Akira” and “Kiki’s Delivery Service,” and later directed projects like “Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex” and “Blade Runner: Black Lotus.” Previously, animated movies based on Middle-earth have been made, and this seems promising.
The battle of the Rohirrim is set to be released in cinemas on December 13, 2024. Meanwhile, starting August 29 (next Thursday), the second season of The Rings of Power will be available on Amazon Prime Video. So, it seems like 2024 will be overflowing with Middle-earth content!
