Jenna Ortega reveals full circle horror journey while promoting Beetlejuice sequel on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

As a dedicated follower of horror films, I can wholeheartedly relate to Jenna Ortega’s chilling journey through the genre, having been terrified by Chucky myself at an impressionable age. Her story about getting lost in her sibling’s closet while watching “Child’s Play” brings back memories of my own parent-teacher night escapades, only mine ended with a sleepless night spent huddled under the covers with a flashlight.

On a talk show during the promotion of the Beetlejuice sequel, Jenna Ortega discussed her journey through horror films and how it ended up being connected in a circle while working on Beetlejuice.

During a chat on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, a 49-year-old host inquired about the initial horror film that sparked the actress’s fascination for the genre, who was then 21 years old.

“Jenna mentioned the initial scary movie she encountered. It seems like ‘Child’s Play’ from 1988, a supernatural slasher flick, might have been it.”

‘Chucky,’ chimed in Jimmy referencing the homicidal doll possessed by the soul of a serial killer.

When I was around four or five, I sneakily peeked at something I shouldn’t have while my parents were away on parent-teacher night. My uncle was watching us, and for about half an hour, they couldn’t find me because I was huddled in a corner rocking back and forth, acting as if I were scared someone might catch me. Jenna shared this story.

‘Swear to god. Swear to god. I was in my sibling’s closet,’ she added.

Jimmy observed that Jenna had experienced deep emotional trauma, yet she continues to portray such distressing scenarios in her roles, particularly in the films “The Babysitter: Killer Queen”, “X”, as well as two installments of the “Scream” series.

‘You got to face your own fears,’ Jenna quipped.

As a die-hard fan, I can hardly contain my excitement as Jenna unveils the stunning revelation that her childhood apprehension is set to complete its cycle in the forthcoming Tim Burton masterpiece, Beetlejuice 2!

In ‘Beetlejuice’, we opted for practical effects, meaning it feels more like playing with toys or engaging with props rather than focusing on a tennis ball while acting, according to Jenna.

“Yes, that’s right. I can observe everything as if it’s unfolding in front of me, yet it feels oddly similar to watching a doll play out a scene. You know, like Chucky, the doll from the movies, and now I’m interacting with actual dolls. It’s quite peculiar,” she explained.

Jenna shared that she also has been working on the second season the hit Netflix show Wednesday.

She has taken on a producer role for the show’s second season.

‘Oh, my god. It’s been the best. I’ve never really done that on a TV show before,’ Jenna said.

During the first season, Jenna mentioned that they talked about it, and she finds pleasure in participating in those discussions.

She explained, “I have the power to determine the shade of someone’s color or where their brain will end up on the ground.”

On Wednesday, Jenna shared that she landed the role in Beetlejuice due to her prior connection with director Tim Burton. In fact, he was aware of it before she was herself.

As a devoted fan, I can’t forget the buzz I picked up about an upcoming series titled ‘Wednesday’. What caught my attention was the fact that the creators behind this new project are the same talented individuals who brought us ‘Beetlejuice’. This tidbit of information ignited my excitement and I couldn’t help but express my enthusiasm with a heartfelt congratulations. Afterward, as life took its course and career priorities ensued, the news slipped to the back of my mind, but the anticipation remains!

She talked about running into Burton once more before the Wednesday premiere, during which he sought suggestions regarding ideas for season two of the Netflix show.

When I sat down to work on my journal and share my thoughts, she unexpectedly slipped the ‘Beetlejuice’ script into it without telling anyone. She simply remarked, “Oh, alright. There’s no need to rush, Jenna. I believe there might be a role for you here. But if you’re not interested, feel free to decline.”

She mentioned that she hopped into her vehicle, followed by a pause of approximately ten minutes when she parked on the shoulder of Pacific Coast Highway, a well-known California freeway. Subsequently, she spent an hour seated on rocks overlooking the water. Later, she contacted her team and declared, ‘I’m not entirely sure what I’m consenting to, but I’m going along with it.’

The upcoming movie, titled “Beetlejuice 2,” is a follow-up to the 1988 film by the same name and will hit theaters on September 6.
