Alex Consani makes history by becoming first out transgender woman nominated for Model of the Year at 2024 Fashion Awards

The in-demand model Alex Consani celebrated a major milestone on Tuesday.
At the age of 21, this transgender woman made history by being the first openly trans individual nominated for a prestigious award, just before the 2024 Fashion Awards event.
In the Model of the Year category, Consani found herself among other promising newcomers and seasoned professionals such as Alva Claire, Amelia Gray Hamlin, Anok Yai, Liu Wen, and Mona Tougaard.
The British Fashion Council bestows the awards, and they stated in a press release that the Model of the Year category is given to honor a model who, during the past year, has significantly influenced the fashion world. This impact extends beyond the runway, reaching far and wide.
Even though Consani is relatively new to the modeling world, she’s been active since 2015. In fact, at just 13 years old, she was the youngest transgender model to be signed by a modeling agency, as reported by The Independent.
She later joined the high-profile IMG Models in 2019.
Despite having a nurturing childhood in Marin County, California, Consani revealed to The Independent that it was only during her trip to New York City to explore universities that she felt like she had discovered a supportive community specifically for transgender individuals.
In 2020, the stunning woman expanded her professional horizons by becoming a popular sensation on TikTok, known as ‘captincrook’ on the platform.

Even though Consani is the initial female nominee for Model of the Year who openly identifies as transgender, she’s actually the second trans individual to be recognized in this category overall.
In 2023, Kai-Isaiah Jamal, who came out as a trans man in 2014, was nominated for the honor.
After that point, they have chosen not to conform to traditional male or female identities, as reported by the London Evening Standard.
Among the nominees in this category, Consani is joined by another model who openly identifies within the LGBTQ+ community, as Mona Tougaard disclosed her membership in the LGBTQ+ community during an interview with Vogue Scandinavia in 2023.
Consani’s fast-paced profession saw him participating in approximately 20 shows during the fall/winter 2024 fashion cycle as reported by Teen Vogue.
During that time of year, she received invitations from well-known fashion brands such as Marc Jacobs, Ferragamo, Mugler, Helmut Lang, Simone Rocha, and Thom Browne, along with several others, to model their latest collections on the runway.
In her previous career, she’s also modeled for notable fashion brands such as Alexander McQueen and Versace.
In March of this year, she stepped onto the red carpet for the first time at the 2024 Academy Awards, thereby solidifying her growth and impact beyond the realm of fashion.
