Welcome to Derry showrunner to take over the Friday the 13th prequel series at Peacock

As a lifelong horror fan who can still vividly remember the chilling impact of Jason Voorhees squeezing an eyeball out of its socket at the tender age of eight, I must say, the recent developments surrounding the upcoming “Friday the 13th” prequel series on Peacock have me more than a little excited!

Although facing considerable obstacles, it appears that the prequel series for A24 and Peacock’s Friday the 13th is still progressing. It’s no secret that Jason Voorhees is a tough character to eliminate!

Recent updates about the show, as stated in reports from May, indicated that Bryan Fuller and his co-showrunner Jim Danger Gray were apparently let go from the project. For a comprehensive understanding of the events unfolding off-screen, I suggest checking out The Wrap’s detailed analysis.

The situation has shifted, it seems that Crystal Lake is once again moving forward. According to Deadline, A24 has appointed a new head, Brad Caleb Kane, for the project. Notably, Kane boasts an impressive resume in television, having previously contributed to shows such as Warrior, Black Sails, Fringe, and Tokyo Vice.

Of particular interest is that Kane is also jointly overseeing another horror prequel series, titled “Welcome to Derry,” which is in development at HBO. This series is set within Stephen King’s “It” universe and will feature Bill Skarsgard reprising his chilling role as the terrifying clown Pennywise.

The specifics regarding the storyline of ‘Crystal Lake’ remain secret for now, possibly due to changes in creative direction following Fuller’s departure. Moreover, Kane has taken over as both the showrunner and the original creator, writer, and executive producer of the ‘Crystal Lake’ series.

Deadline posted a declaration from the versatile individual, who admitted that he became an avid follower of the slasher genre ever since he watched Jason pop out another character’s eyeball at the tender age of eight.

I knew my creative path was someday destined to converge with The Man Behind The Mask. Nothing defined my childhood more than growing up in the golden age of the slasher flick, and nothing’s defined the genre more than ‘Friday The 13th.’ I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, particularly with such fearless partners as Peacock and A24.

Beyond Crystal Lake, Horror Inc. has recently unveiled an extensive cross-platform expansion for the Friday the 13th universe. However, it is uncertain whether a fresh film will emerge in the future as a result of the franchise’s complex legal matters.

The original writer of the 1980 movie that kicked off the franchise, Victor Miller, will take up the role of executive producer for the upcoming Peacock TV series.
