Rove McManus and Tasma Walton go for a stroll in Sydney’s Bondi with daughter Ruby – after Tasma revealed their child will be brought up free of ‘gender stereotypes’
As a dedicated follower of Australian entertainment, I have always admired Rove McManus for his wit, charm, and dedication to breaking societal norms, especially when it comes to gender roles. Having grown up in the vast outback of Western Australia, I can only imagine the courage it takes for a man like Rove to challenge such deeply ingrained beliefs in our society.
On Monday, Rove McManus and his spouse Tasma Walton were seen enjoying a leisurely walk along the well-known Bondi Beach in Sydney, accompanied by their 10-year-old daughter Ruby.
The family held hands and appeared in good spirits as they made the most of their day out.
Rove, 50, looked smart and ultra fit after his evening at the Logie Awards on Sunday.
He donned a white, striped t-shirt featuring narrow horizontal lines, along with black denim pants, complemented by a bomber jacket.
He completed his look with designer sunglasses and white runners.
Tasma donned a dark, puffy jacket on top of a black knitted sweater, teaming it with vibrant red floral trousers and a pair of black sneakers.
Previously known from “Home and Away,” who is now 50 years old, styled her short, dark hair to one side and opted against makeup during this public appearance.
She accessorised with a pair of dark sunglasses.
Ruby, meanwhile, smiled as she walked hand in hand with her mum and dad.
She looked vibrant wearing flowery leg warmers, a soft sky-blue hooded sweater, and a zipped jacket with a pink leopard pattern.
She completed her look with a pair of runners which featured a flower print.
Following the declaration by Rove and Tasma, they expressed a desire for their daughter to mature free from traditional expectations regarding gender roles.
For 13 years now, this married pair has worked diligently to ensure their home is not influenced by traditional gender roles often associated with ‘boys’ and ‘girls’.
In the year 2022, Tasma shared with Stellar Magazine that the concept originated when her friend Ruby was informed by another classmate that blue is traditionally considered a “boy’s color.”
She explained to her daughter, “Isn’t that ridiculous?”, implying no one owns colors. Everyone is free to prefer any color they choose.
‘The parents of little boys should be having those conversations, too,’ she added.
She continued by sharing that she allows her child to explore a variety of playthings and pastimes without any restrictions.
“She noted it can be tricky to balance recognizing societal rules while simultaneously encouraging her with the sense of freedom and enthusiasm that comes from realizing those rules aren’t absolute boundaries,” she expressed.
If your decisions never harm anyone or anything else, you’re free to act and become whomever you choose.
In 2009, Rove and his famed spouse from Geraldtown, Western Australia, got married. They have one child together, named Ruby.
Despite his significant contribution to the Australian television industry, Rove remains most recognized for his weekly chat show, Rove Live, which aired on Network Ten.
From 1999 to 2009, the widely known Tonight Show was on air. Following this, he moved to the United States where he hosted Rove LA on Fox8 from 2011 until 2012.
He recently made a return to TV with guest spots on The Project, which his Roving Enterprises produces.
In 2020, the couple purchased a $2million home in Perth, after completing renovations on their $6.4million mansion in Sydney’s Bronte.
