Patch Preview: Operation Midnight

Patch Preview: Operation Midnight

As a long-time player of this game, I must admit that I was quite taken aback when Form was no longer part of the Co-op roster. It brings back memories of the good old days, doesn’t it? But alas, change is inevitable and sometimes it’s for the better.

Hello everyone! Over the past couple of events, I’ve been working on a maintenance preview article. This time, I thought I might add some additional details to make it more informative. Therefore, I’m trying out a new approach called the “patch preview.” In this format, I’ll not only discuss upcoming changes but also highlight what new content will be available.

Full event details

New Operative: Vidya – Agave

Patch Preview: Operation Midnight

  • Vidya – Agave preview
  • SSR weapon Snapshot Ace
  • Chaya Squad

Initially, Agave’s equipment appears quite alike Haru – Absconditus, but it seems to prioritize single-target damage and component destruction more significantly. Since Snowbreak doesn’t offer much content for mobbers like Haru to excel in, this single-target focus might actually work to Agave’s advantage.

Reruns

Chenxing – Ethereal Cloud

Patch Preview: Operation Midnight

Initially, having CX5 offered as an immediate rerun during the event made me assume that Agave was going to function as a support character. This assumption seemed plausible because it felt unusual for two Electric DPS characters to be on the banner at once. However, Seasun cleverly executed a bait-and-switch strategy with this setup.

Chenxing appears to be going through a rough phase. She struggles in most current content when compared to newer DPS characters. However, she maintains an advantage against Hela due to her unique ability to place marks on opponents. Despite this, she’s perfectly capable for general content. If you’re content with performance that’s slightly above average and enjoy her character or design, then using Chenxing is a valid choice. But if you aim for top-tier damage output, you might want to consider rolling for Agave instead, depending on how effective she turns out to be. Additionally, there are other strong contenders in the second half of the rerun schedule, as mentioned below.

Cherno – Enigma

Patch Preview: Operation Midnight

Cherno was arguably the first major leap forward in terms of DPS strength, singlehandedly causing a paradigm shift in the meta. And she holds up quite well, as popping enemies for a comically large amount of damage still doesn’t get old. She remains a highly recommended pickup for those who don’t have her. Just please, remember that you can detonate her orbs, and that she isn’t an off-field DPS. I swear, the amount of people who still think that…

Enya – Exuvia

Patch Preview: Operation Midnight

Unfortunately, she’s no longer available. However, if you have enough Digicash, she’s exceptionally valuable as the premier generic damage buffer for skill damage in the game. Her unique sub-DPS gimmick may not always work optimally, but it’s something you can overlook because she’s still an outstanding support. Her ability to boost skill damage by the extent that Enya can is quite beneficial. Additionally, her CC resistance is a valuable asset, particularly against bosses like Hela Ragethorn who frequently use stagger or knockback attacks.

Event Game Modes

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that this new update seems to be catering more towards the veterans rather than the novices. Defense Line Zero and Hero Games are staples in my gaming repertoire, so it’s refreshing to see them return without any major changes. However, Aperture Eclipse, the revamped wave defense mode, is an intriguing addition as it now includes scoring mechanisms along with various bonus objectives. I must admit, I find myself drawn to this new feature and can’t wait to test my skills in this updated gameplay style.

Skins

In this update, Vidya, Chenxing, and a character named Acacia will each acquire new outfits. The first two are found in our premium store, while Acacia’s appearance can be changed by buying a skin in the Choice Products Shop using currency earned from our monthly pass, referred to as “Employee Benefits”.

Additionally, Enya – Exuvia has a unique weapon skin available. You can obtain this as a reward from the premium battlepass (which comes with an extra 280 Digicash bonus), or you can purchase it directly from the shop if you prefer. This might be enticing for those who are keen on collecting past battlepass skins, as the premium battlepass skin selection includes several of these options this time.

I feel a bit disappointed that the unique Kaguya battlepass outfit I have may become less exclusive, as more people who joined later will have an opportunity to obtain it. However, I realize this is necessary for fairness. In this situation, I’m willing to make a sacrifice – no thanks needed. Keep in mind, you can only select one option, so choose carefully.

Quality of Life Feature Updates

I already wrote a separate article on that, go read it here.

Maintenance

Maintenance for system upgrades will commence on August 22 at 9:50AM UTC+8, which translates to [your own time zone here], and is expected to last approximately 7 hours. During this period, you’ll receive the standard maintenance bonuses: 420 Digicash, 25,000 Silverbucks, and a 60AP stamina refill as rewards.

Among the usual, rather mundane maintenance notes (you can find the details here), there are some intriguing aspects worth noting:

  • You know those orange words in story cutscenes that you can click on to get extra lore about whatever that thing is? Those are getting added to the Archives menu, so you can get your lore nerd on more conveniently.
  • You can now individually choose which weapon parts you want to display and which you want to keep stock, which is an awesome change because some weapon parts are ugly as sin while others look pretty good, and having to choose all or nothing really sucks.
  • All the references to Twitter in the game have been changed to refer to “X” instead. This isn’t actually that important, but I just wanted an excuse to complain about how stupid that name is.

In addition, numerous bug corrections have been implemented, including adjustments to the Cooperative mode for Sira-Ksana. Previously, there were issues with her not grabbing enemies correctly, which made her appear overly aggressive in dealing damage during Gigalink battles.

For the moment, we’ve reached the end. Did you find this type of article helpful and would you be interested in reading more similar ones in the future? Please let me know.
