NASCAR Cup Series team adding a car for Daytona race

As a devoted NASCAR enthusiast with years of racing knowledge under my belt, I can’t help but feel a rush of excitement every time Richard Childress Racing decides to bring out the No. 33 Chevrolet! The way they’ve been mixing things up this season, giving opportunities to talented drivers like Austin Hill and Ty Dillon, is simply thrilling.

Five times during the initial 24 NASCAR Cup Series races in 2024, Richard Childress Racing fielded an extra car (No. 33 Chevrolet) alongside Austin Dillon’s full-time No. 3 Chevrolet and Kyle Busch’s full-time No. 8 Chevrolet on separate occasions.

Austin Hill, a racer who races full-time for Richard Childress’ team in the Xfinity Series, has been in control of the No. 33 Chevrolet for three events so far. He piloted it at Texas Motor Speedway in April, Kansas Speedway in May, and the Chicago Street Course in July.

Brown and Ty Dillon will both race once; specifically, Brown is set to make his first Cup Series run at Sonoma Raceway in June, while Dillon will have his initial Cup Series race with his grandfather’s team since 2015 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in July.

The No. 33 Chevrolet is set to make its sixth appearance of the 2024 season this Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway.

Hill is prepared to return as a driver and compete in his fourth race of the season, piloting the No. 33 Chevrolet, at the four-cornered, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Daytona Beach, Florida oval track known for its high banks.

Originating from Winston, Georgia, the 30-year-old individual has claimed victory three times at Daytona within the Xfinity Series. Last summer, while racing for Beard Motorsports, he achieved his best career placement of 14th in the Cup Series event held at this venue.

Among the four non-permanent vehicles listed for the race on Saturday night, the No. 33 Chevrolet is unique because it’s the sole entry from a team that participates in all events throughout the season.

As a long-time fan of NASCAR, I’m thrilled to see some exciting changes happening in the racing world. The NY Racing Team is gearing up to field the No. 44 Chevrolet for Joey Gase, and this move could be a significant turning point in his career. I remember watching him race when he was just starting out, and it’s fascinating to see how far he’s come.

As a long-time NASCAR enthusiast with years of watching races and following teams like the No. 33 Chevrolet crew, I must say that this news about no more starts planned for this season beyond this weekend is quite disappointing. The anticipation leading up to each race and the excitement during them are what keeps me hooked to the sport. But it seems like the No. 33 team’s season may be drawing to a close sooner than expected. It’s always sad to see teams struggle, but I’m hoping that they can come back stronger next year with renewed determination and resources.
