As a seasoned cinephile who has attended more concerts than I can count on my fingers and toes, I must say that Taylor Swift‘s achievement at Wembley Stadium is nothing short of breathtaking. I remember Michael Jackson’s iconic performances there back in the day, and to see a fellow solo artist surpass that record is truly awe-inspiring.
Taylor Swift broke the record for most performances by a solo artist at Wembley Stadium in London, making history with her eight shows during a single tour, surpassing the previous record set by Michael Jackson who performed there seven times during his Bad World Tour in 1988.
Taylor Swift expressed her gratitude during her final 2024 show at Wembley Stadium on August 20th, saying: “You have just made me the first solo artist to perform here eight times in a single tour. We will never be able to fully thank you for this achievement.” (BBC reported)
As a devoted fan, I had the privilege of attending three unforgettable performances by the 34-year-old singer at Wembley Stadium in June. Fast forward to August, I was back at the same venue for an additional five nights, bringing the European leg of the Eras Tour to a close. What an incredible journey!
Since its kickoff in March 2023, Taylor Swift’s tour has shattered previous records. In June this year, an enthusiastic audience at her concert in Edinburgh, Scotland, even triggered seismic activity. Furthermore, her shows at Wembley that same month set a new record for the highest amount of mobile data consumption during a single event. A staggering 5.57 TB of data was reportedly used—the equivalent of playing Swift’s entire discography repeatedly for a decade straight, as confirmed by mobile service provider EE.
However, the tour hasn’t been smooth sailing. In mid-August, a thwarted terrorist plan in Vienna necessitated the cancellation of all three shows in the Austrian capital. This incident raised concerns about potential cancellations in London as well. Yet, authorities in London confirmed that the shows would proceed. As a representative for the Metropolitan Police in London told TIME earlier this month, “There’s no evidence suggesting that the investigations ongoing by the Austrian authorities will affect upcoming events in London. The Met collaborates closely with venue security teams and other partners to establish suitable security and policing arrangements.”
During the final leg of Taylor Swift’s Tour at Wembley Stadium, Jack Antonoff, her long-term music partner, joined her on stage, as did Ed Sheeran and Florence Welch – artists she has previously collaborated with. To delight her fans even further, Swift unexpectedly performed “So Long, London,” a track from her latest album, titled The Tortured Poet’s Department.
