Torchwood legend returns for new special
As a gamer with a soft spot for sci-fi and a deep affection for the world of Torchwood, I must say that the return of Naoko Mori as Toshiko ‘Tosh’ Sato has me absolutely thrilled! The idea of Tosh being involved in an escape room-style diplomatic simulation to save the world is just too intriguing to resist.
Torchwood legend Naoko Mori is returning as Tosh for a new special.
In a new Big Finish audio production titled “Torchwood: End Game“, Naoko will be returning to her character as tech expert Toshiko ‘Tosh’ Sato from the original series. This exciting drama can currently be purchased in both CD and digital download versions.
In this installment, events unfold prior to the ‘Exit Wounds’ finale of Torchwood’s second season. Here, Tosh assumes a role within a clandestine group during a strategic diplomatic exercise, aiming to prevent global catastrophe.
Working alongside international peers on this assessment of global disaster readiness, it is strikingly evident that each one of them faces a genuine risk.
In the series “Torchwood: End Game,” Mori is accompanied by Greg Wise, known from “The Crown,” Ed White who’s famous for his work in “Doctor Who,” and Jolade Obasola, recognized for being in “Top Boy.” Tatjana Nardone, well-known for her role in “The Winter King,” lends her voice to the computer simulation.
Mori playfully hinted, “Imagine Torchwood set inside an escape room or a panic room.” Reading the script immediately made me feel uneasy since I have a fear of confined spaces.
“Trust me, there’s no doubt about Tosh. She’s the kind of individual who consistently puts others before herself – someone I can always rely on to make sacrifices when needed.”
The audio drama “Torchwood: End Game” was penned by Tom Black, who’s known for his work on “Make Me Prime Minister”, and it was skillfully directed by Scott Handcock, a script editor from “Doctor Who”.
Years back, I devised crisis situations for an interactive stage production titled “Crisis? What Crisis?” explained Black. The spectators were required to engage actively as they navigated through a sequence of escalating problems that they had to resolve on their own.
In actuality, I believe Tosh would perform well due to her intelligence. Unlike some members of Torchwood Three, she has the ability to perceive the overall situation clearly even during high-pressure circumstances, which is what intrigued me about placing her in such a challenging setting.
In the initial two seasons, Mori was featured on the series Torchwood. Interestingly, they initially appeared as Tosh in the Doctor Who episode titled ‘Aliens of London’.
As a devoted fan, I eagerly tune into BBC One in the UK for the latest adventures of Doctor Who, and when I’m not residing there, I catch up with the Time Lord on Disney+. For my fellow UK fans who can’t get enough of classic Doctor Who episodes, they are readily available on BBC iPlayer!
